That 2000 Independence Bowl is one of my all time favorite non-LSU bowl games.

The combination of the weather (snow in Sheveport), the uniforms (white on white w/maroon trim vs maroon on white w/white trim, and the actual play on the field (High scoring and settled on OT), made for quite the visual stimulus.

This and the Tennessee OT win three weeks earlier are two of my first vivid memories of LSU football as a kiddo. Death Valley was an absolute madhouse and that’s putting it lightly. I was instantly hooked.
It still gets loud and comes unglued at times, but I don’t know if anything will come close to how it was in the early 2000’s. Awesome memories!

Reggie Robinson was huge in that game and the running game was straight beast mode. The offense kept MSU off balance all night.

Got stationed at USMC MARFORRES for 2 years 99-00 (good thing for me re: lsu football and family\bad thing for me and the Marines). This game, and as someone else mentioned the Tenn game from earlier that year (was at both), were 2 games I watched on my VCR repeatedly until we finally popped our cherry in 2003. both were insane and what i loved about Tiger Stadium.

I think the fact LSU had Saban and was once again playing really good football after a prolonged period in the doldrums had a lot to do with that

All week in the Advocate the sports writers and even the national guys wouldn't shut up about how huge States DLine was and how they were going to give our running game fits. I was so sick of hearing about it by game time...It felt so good to see our Oline push them around all night.

At that time The Advocate always had an article with their sportswriters predictions for the week. Without fail Glenn Guilbeau would pick the other team over LSU every.single.week.

So when you see someone say he's a contrarian just for clicks, you can call BS on that. He's been a pessimistic little closet LSU hater for over 2 decades.

This was an awesome game and started a streak of 14 straight wins against the Cowbells.

I was in the Army and I watched it with dudes all over the US but they got into LSU Football that night. My friend Paquin from Rhode Island loved Syracuse, but he watched more LSU games that season than any other team because of me. Even though I was stationed in Ft Campbell, KY, I still drove down and saw the Auburn (in Auburn), Florida (in Gainesville), Kentucky (in BR), Alabama (in BR) and Georgia Tech (in Atlanta) games. Great season.
