#2 LSU gymnastics takes on #4 UCLA today in the Metroplex Challenge

National rankings by the events:
LSU:
Vault: 3rd
Bars: 2nd
Beam: 2nd
Floor: 2nd
UCLA:
Vault: 8th
Bars: 3rd
Beam: 5th
Floor:3rd
#14 Washington and NC State will also be there competing. This meet will be up on a podium so the equipment is much more bouncy. It will not be televised by be streamed by flo gymnastics. IMO its not worth the one month subscription. Meet starts around 6:46 P.M tonight. Edney will be a meet time decision if she will participate in the all around due to a hyper extended knee she experienced in warm ups vs Bama. She will be on bars and beam for sure either way.
Vault:
The entire week I constantly saw LSU push the envelope with upgrades to many vaults. Julianna Cannamela and Sarah Finnegan both practiced 1 1/2's on vault. So don't be surprised to see the brand new vaults on display later on today. LSU wants a minimum of 5 10.0 vaults by mid February. Lexi Priessman can compete a 1 1/2, DD is trying to be cautious so Lexi doesn't over do it. Ruby had a nice week of practice, she worked extremely hard, she felt awful about what happened last Friday. Edwards looks to improve her landing on her new vault. Edwards form in the air is phenomenal. UCLA can potentially be excellent on this event but they lack difficulty to put up major scores. Inconsistency is bad for UCLA on this event.
Bars:
We should continue to expect more of the same. Kirby or Dean may make an appearance extremely soon on this event. Both have been impressive in practice. LSU will likely put up more major scores in this rotation later. UCLA is phenomenal on this event. They are led by Olympians Madison Kocian and Kayla Ross. Lee for UCLA is incredible as well as the routine is stacked with difficulty and intricate skills not seen in the NCAA level. For UCLA to make a major push, they need to hit this event
Beam:
LSU had a very competitive practice on beam this week. Everyone looks more polished and less labored. Desiderio had some fantastic beam sets this week in practice. I would continue to expect to see Desiderio and Campbell in the 4 and 5 spots in the lineup. Both of these freshman will continue to improve on their scores. UCLA is excellent on beam as well, sometimes it can be a bit inconsistent but when they hit can put up some major numbers.
Floor:
Floor it will be very interesting to see what happens later. You will obviously continue to see Myia, Finnegan, Edwards and Kirby. Desiderio is currently bein pushed extremely hard, LSU needs her on this event. Lexi Priessman could be an option later. Routines in practice look excellent. LSU has held Priessman back here due to concern of injury for her. Lexi will never be 100% especially again. With the addition of Desiderio to the lineup, LSU potentially could add another 9.9 or 9.95 score. Cannamela looked excellent in practice this week so I would expect to see her back in the lineup later on today.
I am curious who the judges will be later on. The entire gymnastics world was dumbfounded by OU/Florida meet. Look for LSU to put up a 197.400-197.600 score. Usually scores are fairly strict at these meets, but it should be a fun one. I can update scores in this thread later.

I’m working on going as we speak. Trying to find out where ilthis place is and how to buy tix in advance. I heard they’re $30/head. That’s high for gymnastics but it’s the only chance to see them all year

It is but I will say you will see some excellent athletes. A lot of former US National team members and former olympians will compete later. You will enjoy yourself. Sit back and watch some phenomenal gymnastics and enjoy

No point in buying tickets in advance, and I don’t think you can buy them online anyway. All tickets are general admission, and it’s never been close to sold out in past years. Also in the past tickets were cash only, so don’t let that catch you by surprise... venders took credit/debit cards but not the ticket table.

I’ve never been to the Convention Center but they sure don’t make it easy to get into this event. No phone number and no info on tickets. Thanks for the info on the cash cause I never carry cash!

I don’t either and learned that lesson the hard way lol. There will be a section marked off with pompoms for LSU, and if you get there a little early you should come sit with other LSU fans...it’s a fun meet!

Saw a tweet this morning that 3 of the teams are ranked in the top 25. LSU (2) and UCLA (4) are top 10 and Washington is 14th the other team is ranked 28th.

LSU, UCLA and Washington also qualified to nationals last year (top 12 teams). It will be a great meet I think.

Hey man, I know I have told you I don't particularly like gymnastics and don't follow it.
BUT, I have to give it to you for your bravery. After what we discussed last night in the "No gymnastics on Friday night" thread, I will certainly champion for you in case you do get the boot for doing this.
In the reinstatement threads they ask what the person has to say about the admins that is good to kiss butt - Have any thoughts on what you would say?

ps - I might be thinking about the softball guy, if so my apologies to OP.

Ha Ha !!!
This is the softball guy also. I follow softball so I don't really mind that.
He is risking a timeout doing this thread. Will be a horrible precedent here if it happens.
I wonder if it was Chicken that notified him?

I know people may find it weird that I'm a gymnastics junkie but I am because my sister and cousin were former senior elite US National team members. I've been around it all for decades.
I know practically the entire elite community and such so I love to provide updates when I can.
I am a former Divison I athlete myself, my family has had college baseball players too. So we are all sports junkies

I don't know enough about gymnastics to have an opinion on if it is weird or not.
The thing I have emphasized when butting heads with you was not about the sport but how others were viewed in comparison.

I am glad for you and LSU that the program's gymnastics team is doing so well these days. I'm sure it's a hell of a lot more fun that way.

My dad was a high school coach and my sister was a pretty good softball player so I actually was a fan of those sports long before becoming a football fan.

Dude you’re a stalker! I wonder about those who are more worried about the poster than the content/message delivered! It’s sad! Go get a hobby

It really sucks that there is no TV coverage except through FloGymnastics, which makes you pay $30 for a monthly subscription. I caved and did it last year for a meet, and found their coverage sucks - I've seen high school kids cover an event better.
What also sucks, is that I don't see any links to live stats. Why is that? Does FloGymnastics have some sort of contract that eliminates the posting of live scores if they cover a meet?
They will never get a dime of my money again.

So you’ve never played sports and just watch other people. So we know you’re Derek Pomansky.
Such a loser.

I wish I could watch the meet.
I hope LSU hits. This is a great meet because it prepares the girls for podium meets later in the season, mainly SECs and Nationals.
Having so many freshmen in our lineups makes me a bit nervous about competing in an arena, on a podium and with 4 teams going at once. All for the first time. I wouldn't be shocked if nerves get the best of them at some point but again, huge learning experience that will have a big pay-off later in the season. If they manage the pressure then they are even further ahead in the mental department than I expected with so many freshmen.
