Good game but ended in a tie. LSU had some great players - Hilliard, James, E. Martin, Wickersham on O and Henry Thomas, Michael Brooks, and Jeffrey Dale on D. LSU had kicking issues (I seem to remember that being a recurring theme) but otherwise looked well-coached and formidable coming off of a bad year that got Stovall fired. Florida looked fast and good.

I was in college at the time but I must have been working that day as I've never seen this game. I only remember catching the last minute of the game on a TV in Cortana Mall where LSU had a chance to win but missed a FG. Great game and appropriate with a coaching change. Enjoy!

Arnsbarger gave it to the kicker at the end of the game. I remember the kicker mouthing the snap was high and Arnsbarger saying he didn't care.

Arnsparger was one of the best, true coaches we ever had and we apparently didn't appreciate him enough when he was here.

Buddy of mine played defense for him. Said Arnsparger knew what the offense was running before they could break the huddle. Said he was simply a matter of fact guy.

No nonsense. Former Marine. Semper Fi. R. I. P. Bill.

That's the only play I remember seeing on TV at Cortana Mall that Saturday 38 years ago. It was still a good game when you think of the context - coming off of a 3-8 season, down 14-0 at the end of the first quarter, in Gainesville. I didn't like the tie but I remember being very encouraged after the game.

During the game as the kicker ran off the field. I was sitting next to former LSU coach Charlie McClendon and his wife and remember it well.

Coach Mac: "WOW, that's gonna make the news".

Great coach, but he refused to interview Steve Spurrier as his replacement. Then he quickly became AD at the U of Florida and guess who he hired as Head Coach?? Yes Steve Spurrier.

Snap was high and the laces were in as well but it wasn’t even close.

You're welcome! I love finding these old games. For some reason, I've had difficulty finding Arnsparger-era games. I was glad to see this one.

You are so right. Arnsbarger was a really good coach. Best technical coach we ever had.

If he could've tolerated recruiting kids, I think he would've stayed here awhile and been very successful.

FR year of LSU for me. Watched that one on TV.

2 years later in 86 went to Gainesville. Tigers took that one 28-17. Game was a blur but it was hot as hell.

He gave us Archer so he could hire Spurrier.
