With LSU's record, they probably aren't getting a top-half seed. That being said, I think I would almost rather us be an 11 or 12 over being anywhere from 7-10. Obviously, our first round matchup may be a little tougher, but probably not by a lot. Then, second round isn't such a juggernaut.

yep.

12 v 5 gets you the 4 13 winner

8/9 gets you #1 99% of the time.

LSU will be a team come tournament time that a 1 or 2 seed won’t want to see in their bracket. Not that LSU will make a run but they have the type of talent to play a lights out game and upset someone. Then probably follow that up by losing to a mid major 6 seed.

Depends on what your goal is in the NCAAT? Is it just to make the second week? If so, a 11-12 might be slightly better. Is it to make it further? Then an 8-9 seed is probably better.

8-9 seeds have made the Final Four 8 times in history

11-12 seeds only 4 times (LSU '86 being the first)

To make it far you likely have to slay the big dragons (top 3 seeds) eventually. As an 8/9, you're almost assuredly going to play to play a #1 seed in the second round. But, there might be an advantage to getting them with only one day of prep/rest in between. IF you can pull the upset in round 2, then the path to the final four is much clearer.

I don't think one is really that much better than the other. What's more important is personnel/style of play matchups as opposed to seeds

I wouldn't have guessed that. Interesting stat.

There are only two teams this year that are clearly topnotch: Baylor and Gonzaga. The top Big10 teams will do well in the NCAA because their conference is by far the toughest this season.

At large teams don’t get 12. We’ll be somewhere from 7-11 probably

as long as they aren't looking at zags or baylor in the second round, they can run with anyone

I kinda like that route as well because the higher the seed you knock off the better avenue you have if you do it. The biggest test is game 1, that’s the game you get a weeks worth of prep so it can be the toughest. Once you get to the second game on the weekend talent can take over and that’s better for us.

If they would’ve had Bol healthy they probably beat Virginia in the sweet 16 then who knows. Oregon and Altman are very underrated. He’s put a ton of solid pros into the NBA recently.

The right answer is just win and it'll work out. If getting an 11 or 12 seed means sweating the bubble... No thanks. Give me the 7-10 and the assurance we are in the tournament.

If getting an 11 or 12 seed means losing to Vandy and 1st rd of SECT than no thanks. Give me the 7-10 seed.

Just get in the tourney in this crazy season
That's all I want
And let the chips fall where they may
It would be another waste of talent not to make it with Cam Thomas as a one and done

So you're saying that if LSU gets a 11-12 seed their chances are statically higher than the rest of the 11-12 seeds.

If we don't play well enough down the stretch to get higher than an 11 or 12, then I wouldn't be too confident that we get past the 1st round. I agree with you in terms of the 8 or 9 seeds - they only reach the sweet 16 around 7% of the time, but 7 seeds get to the sweet 16 around 20% of the time, while 11 and 12 seeds get there 15% of the time, so the numbers say 7 seeds advance to the 2nd weekend about 33% more than 11's and 12's.
