Yeah, it isn't hindsight either. Announcer called it beforehand. I like Dunn but that one was on him. Amazing how strategic of a game baseball is.

Second awful defensive play call in just this inning.
They're not even shifting for the whole AB. They wait till 2 strikes as if THAT's when he'll pull the ball. I don't get it. Zero sense.

I imagine their decision was based on more than the tiny arse sample size of a few foul balls. If the shift worked, no one would have mentioned a peep about it. This outrage about it now reeks of hindsight bias.

If they're using BATS to make the shift, then why is it happening with 2 strikes only? I'm assuming the data says to do it, right? How many games do they have on these guys this year? 20? Is that enough to track tendencies to shift these guys? Where was the shift last night?

I highly doubt the data says he pulls ball with authority on outside curve balls.

No dumbass. The 1st few pitches they were normal. Then you shift for a pull you expect something on the inner part of the plate. Pitch was a curve on the outside corner. Bad call. That's common sense

Yeah, with 2 strikes you're not pulling the ball you're trying to put it in play.

Lange bailed out PM with a K if not a hit was getting through.

I really don't like the fat boys for A&M, Boomer, Gideon and the cool guy with the whole left arm tat, like he served in Iraq.

Which is why I said

I have no idea, and maybe I am giving them too much credit, but there is little doubt they have more data available to them and they are more knowledge about baseball than everyone in this thread. I'm sure there was at the very least a defensible reason for the shift there. It was an unlucky seeing eye single. Doesn't mean the coach is a moron.
