I am 100% stats and data guy. I read that article about PM finally deciding to use the two systems, and I thought it was great. But you still have to know how to use it and make the right calls. FWIW, that article said that Cain sets the defense based off that data. I have no clue what he was looking at, but he has to be working with Dunn to get them in the right spots not just based on data but based on how he plans to pitch each batter. It's a complicated strategy that can be very helpful, but not if you administer it like a simpleton.

Fair enough and I agree that shifting just with two strikes is odd. But these guys have more data than us and spend way more time looking at it than us. I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt. And if it worked, no one would have said shite about it being stupid.
