Tony Gibson is excellent and does a great job in Raleigh with not great recruits. if he gets access to top-caliber guys I don't know how good he could be. state pays him pretty well though so he might just wait for the head coaching gig they'll offer him when Doeren has enough.

Leonhard and Aranda are more realistic and would both be pretty good in BR

Jessie Minter-Michigan -don't think he would leave Michigan for LSU even if he was a prior grad assistant, but he's coached some good defenses

Travis Williams-Arkie - big time like. What he's done for Arkansas's defense this year has been top tier. He's only 40, has coached and played in the south his whole time, and was the recruiting coordinator for Malzahn at Auburn and UCF.

Blake Baker-Mizzou -again, another great young choice and could be at LSU for a couple years because of Louisiana connections. Texas born and coached there. Played at Tulane and coached at Louisiana Tech and obviously LSU. Coached for Miami and has coached safeties and LBs for multiple years.

Lance Guidry-Miami -very Louisiana rooted from birth to cutting his teeth in coaching. He's a DB guy from what i've seen. I also think he could get Chevis Jackson from Marshall (he was his DB coach). Having a former DBU player as DB coach would pay off big time. .

Jim Leonhard-Illinois - biggest DC name on here by a good margin. I think if he did come here, he wouldn't be here long before a HC job came up. Don't know anything about his recruiting, and he doesn't have ties to the south. I'm skeptical on him for these reasons becsuse we don't have a big time defensive recruiter on staff nor do we have a big time recruiter at head coach.
like these guys the most from the write up.

My top 3 after further research based on recruiting, ties to the south, and ties especially to Louisiana, and defensive strategy;

1a. Williams - young with ties to the SEC, has recruited the SEC for years including Alabama and Georgia. Big time recruiter in Georgia territories. He's improved Arkansas immensely and is an aggressive play caller.

1b. Baker - ties to Louisiana, young and is a LB/S coach. Meaning you could keep Steeples as CB coach and i want LSU to develop Steeples while he is developing the CBs. He's produced ever since being the DC at Mizzu

2. Guidry - ties to Louisiana, could get Chevis Jackson here as DB coach. He's an older guy where the vast majority of his coaching had been at FCS or group of 5, but at 52, he has the experience and his Louisiana ties, should pay off big time.

He's one of us!

He's from Welsh and played at McNeese. He really is "one of us".

He was just extended through the 2028 season. They aren't firing him.

And Jimbo was just extended not too long ago and he is about to be fired. Nothing is given until moves are made.

Guys unless House is offered a HC in college or a DC jobon the NFL he isn’t going anywhere. Kelly likes him. He has said so. We have to hope there are changes at dline, DB, and maybe add a ft linebackers coach.

Any of them know how to tell Perkins to legally hit the QB every chance he can? I’ll take that one…

let the other 10 players worry about everyone else….

why did Leonhard drop from DC to Senior Football Analyst?

Leonhard's defenses at Wisconsin were good, but he was coaching against probably the weakest offensive division in P5. He's also probably not going to leave the midwest. I would go another route.

any of those names are better than matt house.

If we could have an avg 30-35 defense right now we’d be undefeated or at worse 1 OOC loss

Aranda was great when he was here but hopefully we've learned our lesson about re-hires with Pellini. Plus, I'm pretty sure Aranda will be looking for head coaching gigs.

So he would use Perk to his abilities? Then, Yes, I’ll take him…

Justin Wilcox: Wilcox is the head coach at Cal where things haven’t been great the last few years. If he’s fired or the two decide to part ways, it puts one of the sport’s most respected DCs on the market. Wilcox was a DC at Washington from 2012-13 when current LSU AD Scott Woodward was also there.

This is an interesting name I hadn't thought of, especially with the Woodward connection.

Blake Baker-Mizzou

He has Louisiana ties and is a solid recruiter.

Mizzou has the 54th ranked scoring defense though and 45th in YPP and he has very few DC skins on the wall. Do we trust him?

Need an elite recruiter at DC and Aranda doesn’t recruit.

I don't think we NEED one. Sure would be nice, but if we get a defensive mind like Aranda and get some elite recruiting position coaches around him, I'd be ecstatic.

Aranda would have our defense playing competitive football this year. We would be tackling, hitting assignments, and making halftime adjustments. Sure, the talent would make us probably middle of the pack, but we'd possibly be undefeated with middle of the pack.

Blake from Mizz

He has his defense in position all the time and they bring pressure often.

Love his style of defense. Gave Georgia fits the entire game
