It seems odd but from what the narrative is about going overseas I get it I guess. I think top players in the portal came and went to quickly before Wade could show them the money and make his pitch to them based on the timing of his hire' imo. Most of those kids were gone already to the elite teams in each conference. Lsu isnt that atm and Wade's approach has to be "i need to start winning right away" for the sake of successful recruiting ASAP.

In today’s college basketball I don’t think there are any plans. It’s a free agent free for all. And you either get the players you want or someone else does. There’s no long term vision anymore.
I do think Wade is correct in only spending money on 7-8 guys. Just pay your rotation guys and fill out the bottom of the roster with walk on level guys.
The big question with Wade is whether he’s still a competent coach when other teams are paying too. It’s easier to get players when you are one of the few schools paying. If everyone is paying, it’s much harder.

Here’s what I consider successful:
Alabama results under Nate Oats
Auburn results under Bruce Pearl
Florida results under Todd Golden
3 football schools clearly showing you can win at basketball.
You just want to make the tourney.
I expect more. And anything less than that is a failure
Put it this way. If McMahon went 20-14 this past year, lost 8/10 games to finish the season, and lost in the playin game of the tourney, would you want to keep him? I wouldn’t. My standard is higher than that. You are happy just hiring that guy.

None of that is relevant in the NIL Era. Coaches win immediately if they can put it together.
Look at Dusty May and Rick Pitino.

Wade put them back on the bubble. And LSU says “yes…we will take that it’s better than last”.
