You have to remember that Shaq as a freshman was extremely raw and at times was a liability. He and Roberts were constantly in foul trouble. He improved dramatically from his freshman to sophomore year.
If they had all stayed an extra year, which was actually very close to happening, that would have been the team that could have won it all.

And this illustrates the ridiculousness of these type things. There is no way that Florida should have beaten Duke when honestly comparing the two rosters. It is obvious that a school like Florida, which has a much larger alumni base, is finding a way to get their people to vote.
