Don't sell LSU too short. It's true, all time we are on the fringe of the top 25 as a program. That is due to subpar coaching, and we have that fixed now. We have signed 20 mcdonald aa's over the years: only about half a dozen schools have signed substantially more than that historically.

My big concern on Shaq versus Wilt or KareemWalton, who would play
very week together, is Shaq staying out of foul trouble. All three of those
were highly skill offensive players while Shaq was still a little raw and tended
to get into foul trouble. Those guys would be unstoppable without Shaq

That is exactly why I have ucla as one of only 2 schools that COULD beat us all time.

Solid list, but you have to include John Williams, and bump a forward somewhere.

You need to make room for Stanley Roberts. Either Bass or Davis gets bumped for Roberts.
LSU did not have many true centers in its existence but Roberts is the most skilled low post scorer we've ever had and was 7'0" 290 in college. Go look at some of the games from his only year at LSU, particularly the Notre Dame game and the LM game. In my opinion, he's way more valuable on a 13 man roster than Bass or Big Baby.
I struggled between Scales and T. Thomas on my list but eventually went with Scales.

This is why you need Stanley Roberts on the 13-man roster. We'd also have Simmons, Swift, and possibly Scales and/or T. Thomas, all about 6'10" to throw at them. Kareem and Walton are simply two of the best of all time and Kareem's sky-hook was essentially unstoppable but they'd also be guarding our guys and would have trouble stopping both Shaq and Roberts.

As I think about the following team:
C - Shaq 7'1
PF - Roberts 7'0"
SF - Simmons 6'10"
SG - Maravich 6'5"
PG - Jackson 5'11"
How do they not score at least 120 ppg against any team? That is ridiculous size, talent and scoring ability.

(**I'm editing this because my initial comments about Pettit were stated poorly)
Pettit was obviously one of the best NBA players of all time. Unfortunately, I've never been able to see him play, but he's a lot lighter and a few inches shorter than Roberts. I think the starting 5 in my post immediately above presents the biggest matchup problem to a team like UCLA that can put Kareem and Walton on the floor but Pettit, obviously, would play a lot and deserves to start.
Kind of nice to have guys like a never-injured Randy Livingston, John Williams, Stromile Swift, DeWayne Scales and Marcus Thornton coming off of the bench.

Honestly, Pettit was so far back I don't know just how good he was but he doesn't have Roberts' size.
Bob Pettit in college:
27.4 ppg
14.6 rpg
Bob Pettit in the NBA:
26.4 ppg
16.2 rpg
Stanley Roberts in thecollege:
14.1 ppg
9.8 rpg
Stanley Roberts in the NBA:
8.5 ppg
5.2 rpg
One is a legend in college and pro basketball, the other is not.

The only 2 with a PRAYER against LSU would be ucla and unc because of kareem and jordan.
we talking COLLEGE careers.
College Jordan was great, but wasn’t anywhere near what pro Jordan became.
Pro Pete was a hall of famer.
College Pete was in a completely different stratosphere from anyone else to have ever played the game.
Pistol AVERAGED more points per game (44) than Jordan ever scored in a single game (39).
in jordan’s best college season, he averaged less than half the points Pete did in his worst season.
Pete had more assists his senior year alone (192) than Jordan did in his entire 3 year college career (181).
Pete also beats him in total rebounds.

I am 100% on board with you. I didn't say unc or ucla would beat LSU. I think we beat anybody all time. I just said those are the only two that COULD do it. In fairness, jordan hit that clutch jumper to win the natty as a freshman, and kareem had the most unstoppable shot in the history of the game.

Understood, and I mean no disrespect for Pettit. I'm totally on board with him being LSU's no. 1 PF and backup center (only because of size) to Shaq. However, when Roberts was on, he was a 7-foot, 290 lb. force. Pettit was 6'9" and 205 lbs in college. It's difficult to look back and say who would give Kareem and Walton more trouble - a 1950s Pettit or a 1990 Roberts.

no doubt he was a very good college player.
but people hear his name and immediately think GOAT.
in the NBA? yes
in college? nah
at Carolina, he wasn’t the dominant completely take over a game type he became in the NBA.
Posted on 7/25/18 at 9:09 pm to Nutriaitch
Speaking of Carolina, I didn't see James Worthy mentioned. He was a dominant college player and the star of the 1982 national championship team.
My all-time final 4:
UCLA
UNC
Kansas
LSU
UK and Duke are up there but I think the 4 I listed have better starting 5s and possibly overall teams. Yes, Shaq lost to Duke with Laettner but he didn't have CJ and Maravich with him and whomever you want to plug in at PF and SF.

Believe me, I bleed p&g, but I think you have to admit dean smith held jordan's individual game down for team success. Imagine pete playing for dean, and jordan given free reign by press maravich. That being said, I do believe pete in his prime would be the best offensive player in today's nba. I completely understand how great pete was, but he did benifit individually by having his dad as coach, and being on a mediocre team.

IMO UNC and UCLA are the only two that would actually stack up against Shaq, CJ, Pettit, and Pistol... Plus one.
Posted on 7/25/18 at 10:45 pm to SoulGlo
Espn actually did this a couple years ago. Im surprised no one has referenced it yet. In the simulation, lsu beat ucla in the semifinals, and then lost to UNC in the finals
