It’s just so obvious to everyone but Blake baker what the strength of this defense is

They are built to be a man to man team . Yes you cannot play man every single snap and need to switch things up but in crucial moments let your jimmy and joes be Jimmy and joes. Just like ole miss, too often in crucial moments in a game Blake will revert to his soft zone that has gotten carved all season. Legit most of Kentucky’s big pass plays were vs zone coverage. I don’t get his obsession with playing zone in big time spots it doesn’t work for us.

It’s disappointing Blake appeared to learn zero lessons from the ole Miss. game when you need to have a gotta have it stop baker will fall into a shell, play zone and not be aggressive. He’s a dc who flexes agaisnt anemic offense and gets his arse handed to him against competent offenses.

We played man on the 2 pt conversion…..

Zone would have likely eaten that play up.

The game shouldn’t have got to OT. He sat in soft zone the entire drive during Kentucky’s game tying drive

He gets so conservative when we absolutely need a stop.

If I paid millions for these players I would tell him you will not get one fricking cent from me if I ever see you run that soft zone again.

Man 2 with safeties over the top from the 3 yard line.

The time he finally calls man is the one time he should have called zone.

I don’t know if Pickett’s given up 5 catches all year and Woodland has been great too. Baker is just a coward anytime the stakes are high.

I started a thread about this. Buts Blake’s defense is extreme. Good or bad. You either can’t get any yards or moving down the field at will. He needs to find balance

We had guys in position to make plays all across that drive, including a ball that easily could have been picked to ice it. The well-paid players who are there have to make some fricking plays.

And I love how you ignore that what I said is 100% fact.

In today’s college football, you are going to play at least 35% zone at a minimum. The more mobile the QBs you play, the more that percentage is going to go up. That’s just reality in modern football.

Woodland is solid but he isn’t athletic enough to be a pure press man corner. You could give him help over the top though and he’s a smart player who can take advantage of leverage.

Pickett, on the other hand, is Peterson/Claiborne/White level good.

Even if that’s the case like you said just roll coverage to his side and let Pickett erase their top guy. There’s too many mismatches. Deuce and Princewell up front requiring help also and this is what we get? Pathetic

He’s a zone guy though. I knew he liked it when blitzing, but he plays zone something like 70% of the time.

And that’s fine if you’re creative enough with your pressures. He isn’t especially when we have to have it. He ain’t no Dick LeBeau

Maybe vs a QB like Reed, but I don’t think he’s normally playing that much zone.

His blitz packages are really creative, as long as it’s not a critical drive.

In crunch time, he goes into a 7 man shell and it’s cover 3 90% of the time.

I didn’t think so either, but he does. His defense is heavy zone.

Our sacks and pressure com s from 2 guys being great players, not from his packages. He was dropping Princewell into coverage on the last drive. It’s buffoonish

Same thing happened on the drive at the end of the half. He has our LBs turning sideways to impede the slants and drags. They’re not even looking at the QB. He’s an idiot
