How does it benefit Alabama

or Georgia by playing in the SEC championship game?

They should both opt out. They are both in without it. One could lose out the playoffs completely losing while the other would drop to a road game.

It doesn’t. Conference championship games are obsolete. It’s just a money thing at this point. Moar TV, ad revenue, ticket sales, etc.

So if Alabama loses the championship game they are out of the playoffs?

Possible. Also possible for Duke to get in if they beat Virginia next week with SMU loss tonight

Or a major player could get hurt for no reason having to miss the playoffs. The playoff has devalued most of these conference championships. The only team that wants to play is Duke.

BYU wants to play for a bid as well, but yeah I agree.
This is a perfect example of why conference championship weekend should be transformed to more of a play-in style weekend for teams on the bubble. Would make things a hell of a lot easier

Now that would just be funny right there, I don’t care who you are.

Yep. I just made a thread about this on the More Sports Board. I wholeheartedly agree

It doesn’t. That game should be eliminated but it won’t because it gets high TV ratings.

Did y’all not pay attention last year? SMU lost and still got in.
The committee treats the conference championships as bonus points - winning can move you up, losing won’t knock you out of the top 12
