From what was implied on one of the podcasts, I believe they were evaluating whether they felt Thomas could help them at receiver or would he just be s return guy. If the latter, they may try to find more versatility there

The way you take both is, you make one of them into your speed back/third down guy.
We need a breakaway/home run threat in the backfield. If I remember Thomas' high school film correctly they used him as a back all the time and he was pretty good.

He obviously wants to be here and we’ve obviously not offered.
With the addition of Anderson and the reports of how well ibieta has been we may not be willing to use a spot solely on a return man which is what Thomas is at this point.
