Against Destrehan, Whitfield had 315 all-purpose yards, and against Hahnville he had 212 yds receiving and was a big factor last year in Zachary's title run. In many ways, Zachary's Whitfield is from the same mold as Tyrann Mathieu AKA the Honeybadger. Similar heights and weight, 5'8" 160 lbs., neither had offers from power 5 colleges. Mathieu actually grew an inch in college, he was listed as 5'8" in high school. Like Mathieu, Whitfield has exceptional speed and ball-handling skills, both excelled on kickoffs and punt returns. Whitfield's only detriment is his size. Mathieu was sort of a last minute decision by LSU after seeing him on seven on seven drills, sure wish they would give Whitfield an offer, LSU desperately needs such a talent.

Here you go with Zachary kids again.

That’s completely wrong. Tyrann has an offer to Tennessee before his senior year.

That’s a lie again. Tyrann committed the summer before his senior year to LSU.

Guess we’ll just have to make due with guys like Derek Stingley.

Nothing against Whitfield but he’s committed to Nichols for a reason. I wish him the best.

Matthieu was an anomaly. He had something inside that can’t be evaluated. He was like LSU winning the powerball with only one ticket.

Correct about the offer, it was after 7 on 7 drills, he wasn't really on LSU's radar until then.

LMAO

There's basically no other player I've ever seen like Tyrann Mathieu, so let's pump the brakes on that.

I understand. Tyrann remains my favorite LSU player of all time, but I couldn't help notice the similarities. And LSU desperately needs a great special teamer.

So Tyran went to camps showed out and then got on radars of major P5 programs. Why didn’t Whitfield do the same?

Yeah. That’s what we need. Not more lineman. We need a 5’8” 150lb special teamer.

Ignorant know it all fans like you were torching Miles for taking Mathieu.

There is no test, no drill, no "metric" for what that kid could do, relative to just knowing where the football was and the best angle on it. Unfortunately, there is no teaching it either - either God makes you that way, or he doesn't.

Still amazing...

Honeybadger is the equivalent of Spud Webb. You might never see another like those two in your lifetime.

It seems like every year some local kid who’s a fringe 4 star is billed as “The Next Tyrann Mathieu” by someone and every year, that kid ends up being nowhere near that good.

No I wasn’t. Tyrann was a 3* borderline 4 and Frank Wilson loved him. That was enough for me. Tyrann came in and earned an offer. I had no problem with it.

You’re just incredibly biased to Zachary kids. I remember you melting when Lindsey transferred.

Not too argue with the down voters, but last time I heard this kind of talk, it was about some small guy in North Louisiana named "Pooka", and he had a decent year at Kansas this year. Just saying, height and weight matters, until it doesn't .... because of speed and special innate abilities

Amik Robertson comes to mind. Although he is good in his own right

I think you need your hearing checked. Hahnville is a little South of North Louisiana.

Zachary defeated Hahnville and for the 5a title last year, that kid is doing great at Kansas. Zachary just defeated Destrehan and Emery in a semifinal, Whitfield was heavily involved in both wins.

Everyone is looking for the next Tyrann Mathieu but he is a once in a lifetime player. We may not ever see a mother TM, especially at LSU, again.
