Probably not.

We've also not offered a ton of defensive players bc they are "too small", and look how slow our defense is bc of it. And yet, I have to spend the whole offseason defending Houston Bates on here, when he's actually a rare LSU defensive player that can run.

As much as I like Demaris Johnson, McCluster is MUCH better than him. Damn, that guy is good! Keep in mind that none of the Florida schools offered him either.

well UF has better guys of the same size

FSU goes for big WRs generally

UM probably has another moss out there somewhere

i honestly don't know how much better he is. McCluster is a straight beast though. so explosive

I would take McCluster over Rainey as an all around player. McCluster can run and catch, Rainey can only run.

You know I've championed Demaris on here before, but I honestly wasn't overly impressed the other night besides with his punt returning. He's a fairly skinny guy, and not the backfield threat McCluster is. You're right, McCluster is an awesome player.

Maybe I'm underrating Johnson all of a sudden for some reason and am wrong, but I don't see the same amazing quickness from him as McCluster has. Demaris would definitely be our best punt returner, but I'm not sure what he'd do for us besides that. Still, he was probably worth a scholly simply due to how bad our punt return game has been.

does LSU even have any super quick explosive guys at WR?

trindon is fast as shite, but not quick. can't do much 1-on-1 with defenders. i think chris toliver is similar

molton, pre-injury maybe?

Trovon Reed hopefully.

I think Jhyrhyn Taylor is fairly quickly, but obviously not in the same stratosphere as someone like McCluster.

Lafell is probably our quickest WR, truthfully. That speaks to both the fact that he's a really talented player, and also that we don't have much quickness at that position.

The past couple of years, we haven't punted well and we have hardly done anything on punt return. I think it hurts us more than we realize. Look how arenas and james(florida) change games.

I wonder if we will regret losing Wooten. He was shifty.

lots of our punt return struggles is that we don't set anything up and haven't for years and years

It's not even them taking them back for touchdowns either, if they average 10 yds (or close to it) a return then that's one less first down that the offense has to make, or about 3 less plays the offense has to run that could lead to a turnover or some other negative play. (That's not a knock on the offense, it's just common sense that you want to start closer to the end zone, and the more plays you run, the more likely you are to frick up.)

they have an entire package for him to run and they ran it early and often this week

they have what looks to be another really good RB, and banks. nothing else (horrible QB and meh WRs)

It's amazing how accurate the RANTard braintrust is at talent evaluation--must be those 20/20 hindsight glasses you wear.

In Meat Market they talk a good bit about McCluster and how the staff was even unsure about him. They loved what he could do but were worried to death about his size and him getting hurt.

He seems to be the rare small guy that endures injuries and keeps playing... although, he did miss about half a season due to an injury.

I think that is the biggest factor when recruiting these guys.

Regardless I don't think we've been in on a lot of top flight guys that are smallish like that. And not by our choice... I just don't think there are a lot of them around that are interested in us...Even those mentioned (D. Johnson, D.J. Banks) all went to second tier div. 1 schools... so it's not like LSU passed and the rest of the world was beating down on their doors...

We went after Debose hard and had a great shot. We also had a commit last year, name escapes me, who switched to Georgia.

yeah, that's it.

so it seems we have gone after at least some smallish guys: wooten, debose, taylor, molten. vote is still out on tolliver.
