He's LSU caliber but in reality he's not elite like Guice, Fournette, or Hill. He's more Alfred Blue and that's fine but if he lived just across the border in Texas or Miss. then his recruitment would be a lot less of a big deal

But he doesn't live out of state. He's the #1 rated RB in the state of Louisiana for 2017. LSU gambled on a longshot on Akers while snubbing Etienne, and lost. They ended up getting neither player. I just heard Shea Dixon tell Hanigriff that Etienne's going to Clemson. LSU better land a top RB in 2018 is all I can say.

Makes NO sense. That staff is gone. The new staff was in him with quickness!

The college of LSU didn't slow play him, Les Miles did!

The new staff went after Cam Akers first, not Etienne.

If he was so great coming out of High School how did he end up at Miss St. I mean they don't usually get the cream of the crop. Obviously he was a diamond in the rough. Maybe TE is maybe he isn't, time will tell.

The fact that we didn't offer him until the 11th hour is flat out baffling to me. Don't understand putting all the eggs in the Cam Akers basket

+1

It's the "bird in the hand" axiom. They snubbed Etienne while going for a longshot on Akers, now they get neither player. Real smart.

Evidently, Mississippi State obviously could see the talent Prescott had and they offered him very early on as a QB. Big guy who could run with a strong arm. Considering the fact that LSU has recruited the likes of Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris, it really makes me wonder why their QB standards for Prescott seemed to be so much higher?

True. But then again they aren't Etienne's home-state flagship football program who snubbed him for an out-of-state kid, either. And they recently won a national championship.

Akers wasn't a long shot. We were in his top 2. Of we land Akers, literally nobody is talking about TE right now. Hindsight is nice to have isn't it? I wonder why we just didn't shite on Akers and offer TE from the beginning? Because we all knew we weren't getting Akers, right?

You should also realize Canada wasn't the official OC yet either when we offered.

Can you imagine the melt if we would not have gone after Akers and he mentioned it?

Akers wasn't a long shot, we were his top 2. Who cares where he ranked, our coaches apparently had CEH ahead of him and Akers also.
The kid is making an emotional decision and I'm sure when he's done with football sometime in the next 5-10 years all those Clemson fans in Jennings will be more than willing to help him out.

No, they went after all their targets in the board to continue momentum. Akers is #1 and showing interest. So they shouldn't visit him? If he flips to Clemson tomorrow, you think they still offer TE?

Get real, Clemson missed on someone else and jumped on TE LATER than us. We've been recruiting him from jump, we just hadn't offered.

This keeps being said by people that really don't have a clue how recruiting works. In-state offers have to be handled much more carefully because there are more repercussions if you ended up having to pull the offer. Every once in a while, you get a kid or a kid's low information family, that doesn't understand the process or is being misled by another school about the process and they get all butthurt about "Not being shown enough love by the home state school"

My point was that Clemson probably missed out on some of their in state RB. TE was the back up plan for them if they missed on the in state guys.

If you have great players 4 or 5 star in state that needs to be first .

I don't get why some of you always elude to these kids having to come back home. Just maybe he wants to go to Clemson to get away from that place. I own property out there and I can tell you that if he returns it's because he wont be looking for someone to "help him out". There is nothing there but rampant drugs and plenty of crime.

I love LSU, but would never fault a kid for wanting to get away from a place like Jennings.

What I don't understand is Travis Etienne is the #1 Rated RB in the state of Louisiana. How can LSU not make room for this kid even if Cam Akers is your priority and you happen to land him. What's the problem in signing 3 RB's in this class?

Obviously they didn't view him as the best RB in the state and didn't want 3. If they really thought he was better than CEH, I imagine they would have offered him before Akers had made his decision. If you'll remember, when CEH re-opened his recruitment, Orgeron was very quick to talk with him and lock him back in.

As it turned out, we weren't that close with Akers. It really was a longshot..he was never coming.
Hope LSU gets a great back in the 2018 class. We are going to need one.
