You have to think that is not leaving much wiggle room for more portal additions. And we literally don’t have the room…we’re over the limit already. BK must believe in these guys and coaches. He brought them all here for reason and had already said he didn’t plan to use the portal as much. It’s obviously LA heavy and he knows they are the most likely to stay loyal and not run off for more nil….so he wants to be loyal to them too. This will be important with the way this game is being played today. We are not just a football school so we do have to choose wisely. I choose to trust his process….

Some of y'all just tell yourselves what you want to hear, I like BK I don't worship the ground he walks on like some of y'all. Scholarship numbers don't mean shite anymore. I'd rather he accumulate as much talent as possible right now and the guys at the bottom of the depth chart can pursue other options in the spring.

I keep seeing people mention that we're just saving up our NIL money for better targets in the spring which is retarded. Outside of rare situations, studs aren't leaving their school in the spring. I don't think as highly of our 2024 roster as most here and think we've missed some good opportunities to upgrade our team but it is what it is.

Poor another drink man. I think we can all agree that BK has earned the benefit of the doubt. Enjoy the ride.

Hes earned benefit of the doubt since our last loss. He'll have it until our next. For some he can do no right. Others he can do no wrong. Truth is, most are right in the middle. Meaning, what have you done for me lately? That's what he's earned. Day to day can eliminate benefit and bring forth doubt and vice versa. I believe we are on the right track and that allows him benefit from me. Doesn't erase the doubts he's also earned along the way.

I'm not mad about it, I just think we could've improved the secondary quite a bit. Unfortunately quality DT's were pretty much non-existent in the portal this year. It seems pretty clear that you have to recruit OL/DL well at the high school level because there are way fewer portal options compared to skill players.

If we are telling ourself that these corners and d lineman can compete for a championship then we are fools

I'm telling myself that many of these young men were highly recruited out of HS, so there must be talent somewhere. I'm also telling myself that it's possible that the previous staff did a poor job of developing their skills, and that thus new staff could do much better.

I'm taking a wait-and-see approach. But some of you are acting like we have a roster full of walk-ons. That's not the case. We just need to develop some of tge talent we have better than we did before.

Also, a secondary's best friend is a pass rush that can get to the QB. We just hired 2 of the best DL coaches in the college game. If these guys can get more out of those players, the rest of the defense will benefit from it.

Kelly was very clear that he didn't want the transfer portal to become normalized to the degree he initially used it.

It also seems like he likes to bring back Louisiana guys if he does pull from the transfer portal.

Exactly! Kelly now has his fingerprints on three classes here that have been full of HS too. This is what ALL the top schools are doing. If you want to be OM go ahead….I say frick that. We are blowing them out of the water when it comes to recruiting blue chip players. I don’t worship Kelly, but he sure does know a lot more than me so I trust him, sue me

Maybe the coaches don’t value the kids that have been out there yet as much as you do and are waiting to see what spring brings bc at worst they feel they can find the same players then and are trying to responsibly manage the roster.

Just bc a kid is in the portal doesn’t mean he’s that great. I think people overvalue portal guys bc they are desperate so the perception can get a little skewed. The guys we’ve seen so far are decent but not elite. Maybe the coaches see it that way too.

You know what is most telling between the back and forth between the people who believe LSU will be a very good team and the others who claim LSU has talent holes big enough to drive a truck through? The Athletic which is a pretty respectable site has LSU ending 12-0 as the only undefeated team in the SEC! I personally think that is overstated as I would say 10-2. But still....

And here is the real irony. The same people who wouldn't believe the rating by The Athletic of an undefeated LSU team are the same people who are biggest star gazers on the planet. They whine like 6 year olds about the number of stars someone has. They also criticize LSU for signing too many 3*s but when a transfer portal guy is a 3* and LSU doesn't sign him, they go ballistic. Talk about hypocrisy! I'm just glad that LSU got that Liberty WR who was rated the 2575th best player out of HS...a low 2* BTW. When he gets 1000 receiving yards like he did last season, it won't matter because you know what...he was a 2*.

It just dont work that way anymore. Even UGA lost a shitton of talent to the portal this season. The portal has created the instant gratification scenario in college athletics. The top tier players in the portal are not coming here for depth and competition.

Easy to spend other peoples money in your mind. We have no info on who we spent money on in this class and I guarantee you we have already committed a large chunk to the 25 class core players.

Then I remind you we also just spent some significant change cleaning out the deadwood in the coaching staff and restock it.

I can't comment on the DL because I don't know who will be moved there to help or who else might be signed. I have said Paris Shand will be one to move...maybe S Jones also. Clearly they are big enough to play DT. But if you didn't see talent last season at CB (Alexander, Toriano, Stamps before he got hurt), then you should not be evaluating talent. That is clearly above your pay grade.

Agreed. Being a little more specific, I don't think we will be any better than last year if we're depending on Bradyn Swinson, Jalen Lee, Sai'vion Jones, and Paris Shand to be major contributors. At this point, I see no improvement.

I actually agree about Lee and Jones. I completely disagree about Swinson who supplied the only pass rush that LSU had along the LOS. I would grade out Swinson as a B+ or A-. IMO, he was sorely missed in the Wisconsin game when LSU only had 2 sacks and few pressures on Mortecai until the last 3 offensive plays by Wisconsin. I also thought Shand did his job when he was in there.

What you seem to ignore is that Womack played decent when he was in there as a TR FR DE. I believe Howard also played a little as an EDGE guy. Both were very highly recruited out of HS.
