These are some Ponchy Tiger posts about this kid. He might be right, in which case that would suck for the Tigers, but we'd all throw some respect his way for accurate player evals.

But hopefully he's very wrong!

quote:

I have been deemed as a hater because I do not praise this kid. I would like nothing more than to have a kid from my hometown and my alma mater QB LSU on Saturday’s. But I have to be honest when I watch him play I just don’t see it. Other than being big and having a good arm, I don’t see the fascination. I don’t think he will sign a major D-1 scholarship come 2020.

In response to Finley saying he welcomes the competition from Max Johnson on twitter:
quote:

Finley isn’t signing with LSU

quote:

Here is my problem with him. He doesn't appear to be a good team leader. When the team runs out at the beginning of the game he is always the last one dragging behind. Always by himself never in a group. In warm ups when the team huddles up and is jumping around getting fired up, he is always off to the side by himself. When he comes to the side lines he tends be usually away from most of the team

quote:

When all is said and done I don't think Finley will end up signing with LSU. I think he is headed for a mid major.

On Clemson possibly being interested in Finley:
quote:

Hahaha, this is hilarious.

Then Bama offered him as well...
quote:

He looks great in these camps but is widely inaccurate in real games.

quote:

I have have went to most of his games the last 2 years. The team is not good but that zero to do with his lack of accuracy. It has zero to with him having no mobility. The guy is slow at the high school level what do you think that will be at the college level? I hope he improves and makes it. I would be thrilled to have one of our Ponchatoula kids leading the Tigers on Saturdays but I just can't see it happening.

quote:

All I am saying is that I have watched may many games of his. He is not accurate and has slow feet.

TJ was a 50% passer in HS w/ 22 ints thrown as a varsity starter. That's concerning. He seemed to do well in camp settings but when I spoke to people who saw him play they all came away unimpressed.

I'm sure he's gotten better with college coaching and there is no doubting his size and arm strength.

You almost cant put any stock in high school numbers.

I trust that the best QB will get the nod. If it is Finley, lets get it on. If Max Johnson didn't have a cool name and an NFL dad, most on here wouldn't have an opinion.

If its TJ power too him for busting his arse and winning the #2 spot. I always thought TJ was more of a project QB with huge potential and Max would be the one who could step in right away in situations like this week, but if TJ won the job good for him, must deserved kudos.

Finley was a raw-potential recruit who like Max played on some really bad high school teams. Max helped elevate his HS team to new heights his senior year. I have had many watch Tj play and he never really stood out with his play. I know Max has grown up with a QB dad and probably has a much better grasp of the mental aspects of the game. I think both are good kids and good leaders but each one goes about how they exude leadership which to the fan is harder to see for TJ over Max.

Absolutely. The kid At Florida never started a High school or college game until last season. You can’t really make judgements until these kids get some coaching. Finley may be what he was in high school, or he could be the next Tom Brady, who didn’t start until his last year in college and was a late round pick. Everyone develops at their own pace and some of the best don’t even come into their own until after they’re in the NFL.

I agree with the overall tone of this thread and hated the amount of criticism Finley took on here, but this seems premature. Him possibly starting on Saturday doesn't necessarily mean that Ponchy and the others were wrong.

Putting stock into HS stats is always silly especially when guys play on teams that lack talent. Finely played in a triple option offense that changed their style because of his throwing ability but ppl wanted to ignore that

From limited practice videos I've seen, Finley has the stronger arm.
I was not all that impressed with Johnson.
I still don't think Finley is ready but they don't have a choice at this point.
It will be a short leash if either one struggles.
I definitely think both will get an opportunity.

Look I hope he lights it up but I saw the kid play in 2 games. He wasn’t the best player on the field in either of the games...

Potential is certainly there. He’s got tools OC’s drool over.

I have no problem saying I too had my doubts about Finley. I look for accuracy, and he didn’t have it in HS.

Having said that, I certainly hope he plays well. It’s a tough spot for sure.

He was running #2 in camp

I didn't get why people though max was going to get the nod if Finley was the #2 all year
