One thing that has been lost in discussion here and was brought to light in Steve Wiltfongs latest LSU recruiting update article was the decline of this class. Going into the summer we had the #2 or #3 class and was in it for many big time OOS recruits. The article pointed out that right now we have the #12 class.

Now I would have fully expected that as we solidified some in state guys, we end up top 8 or even top 5 but I feel like that decline went heavily under the radar and not really discussed. We fell out of it for many of the top OOS guys and were holding on to the fact that its a strong in state class.

The one side of football ops we needed from O was recruiting and this latest article clearly shows that the culture and behind the scenes actions were wearing down the program from a recruiting stand point.

Just another reason why this was the right move and I'm glad it happened now before more damage was done. We still have a ways to go but now have an opportunity to move forward with a solid hire. #GeauxTigers

P.S. Jacoby Matthews (5 star safety) mentioned Napier by name as someone he would be excited about at LSU. So if you don't think Napier has the respect of LA. HS coaches and players, you aren't paying attention

I also think that some other schools have become a lot more aggressive with taking advantage of the lack of oversight in the NIL climate, and it’s easy to guess which schools have jumped on this to take advantage. That, in addition to the perception that LSU is going in the wrong direction have really hurt. What scares me is that there are not that many top uncommitted players that you can currently say that LSU leads for at this point. Aside from the guys whose hearts are with LSU, not having next year’s staff in place is going to allow guys that LSU would be battling for, to be bought and paid for by the time things take shape with the new hires. Think we may end up trying to best take advantage by leaving more spots for transfers because there are going to be some really good players out there.

Glad O is on his way out. I think he's proving to be neither the recruiter nor the DL coach he was advertised to be.

self-fulfilling prophecy. The desire from Scott and others from within the program to take advantage of a covid year following a championship to fire the coach at the first opportunity has repercussions.

Everyone points to Chizik at Auburn. They made it to a championship the next season with the former coach's team. Ever since they have been mediocre. Be careful what you wish for.

So you think it’s better to hang on to a coach who’s been mediocre at best since 2019?

It couldn’t be more apparent and obvious that our program is heading in the wrong direction, On the field and off.

No way I would want to retain a coach an extra year (or any longer than I absolutely had to) simply for the sake of one recruiting cycle. The 2022 recruiting class can still be salvaged if we make the right hire and get him in place by the first week of December.

That said I’m sure there will be at least a small drop off and I recruiting rankings for 2022, just the way it goes when you have to fire a coach who’s allowed a piss poor culture to infiltrate the program.

We are going to be fine long-term as long as Scott Woodward nails this coaching hire

You have one of TD’s biggest Democrats defending Ed Orgeron after apparently half the team quit on him because he said he liked President Trump and thanked him after the White House visit. I feel like I’m in the fricking twilight zone right now.

Matthew’s isn’t the only player or recruit that feels this way about Napier.

GTFOH with that shite. You a blind if you don't see that the program of LSU football is eroding since the 2019 championship game. Ed has performed worse these past 2 seasons at his job then any season under Les Miles. Hell I would say you have to go all the way back to Curley to find someone as inept as Orgeron. The right decision was made and hopefully they are able to bring in their next coach in Dec to save this recruiting class.

Stop with the issue with Trump about the White house visit. Go back and Look at Sarah Smith (interview). He said I love Trump and think he is doing a great job. That has nothing to do with the visit.

Now I both don't like Trump and think he did a good job for the record. But that is not the point, why did O even get into Politics in August of 2020. A smart person would have said I thank President Trump for pushing to have college football, which is what the interview was about. When the Reporter asked him questions outside that context, O could have used that opportunity to say I don't politicize sports and don't comment on them, I let you all in the media do that.

His handling of that interview along with a host of other PR issues shows he did not know how to handle success.

never let decommited high schoolers determine which coach a highly paid athletic director and his CRT president will hire.

Just remember, it's how you FINISH.

If the new coach is a "10", then we will get some studs no-one is even talking about...

A commit from the Top 100 is always nice, but for every Maason Smith & Deion Smith, there always seems to be players ranked >250 like Jack Bech or Malik Nabers that shine just as bright, if not brighter.

Point is, I'm not worrying about a top 5 finish. They'll be plenty of hidden gems, even in a top 15 class.

Wiltfong and Napier are tight. Wiltfong writes some Cajuns commitment articles. You’re not gonna find the head honcho writing commitment stories for many schools

You have to wonder what Mason Smith is telling them, and what he knows

We already knew this because those classes had high attrition rates. Not to mention we didn't capitalize on the '20 class like you'd expect a National Championship program to do. Don't muh Covid me either, Kirby Smart didn't seem to let the sniffles affect his ability.

Recruiting was going to take a hit this year, no matter what happened. If O stayed, there would be enough doubt about his future to impact recruiting, with him leaving, it is going to cost us a few players. Nothing can be done to change that.

The good news is that the new coach will undoubtedly get us some guys we weren't going to get with O staying, happens every time there is a change.

We will be fine.

If you retain O, you still lose the same guys that end up decomitting in the first place and then on top of that the following years class is now at risk with 1 more year of doubt under O. This is worth every penny and headache from a recruiting standpoint.
