You're an idiot. Literally citing the undefeated #1 team in the country in an attempt to prove their strategy was... unsuccessful? Plus another playoff team and near playoff team

It comes down to numbers. If you add 6 to 8 players through the portal to fill needs, then you are in good shape. If you add 15 to 17 along with another 25 out of HS, then you have problems because you just replaced half your team and nobody knows the system.

2/3 will be in the CFP

Ole Miss is having the most successful run they've had since the 60s and were the first team out of the CFP

Seems to be working out well for those schools

In general, the portal usually features three different groups of players.

1. Major conf. players with a history of production that want to leave their current school for one reason or another;

2. Highly rated HS prospects at major conf schools who have minimal production at their current school

3. Experienced mid-major players who have a lot of production, but little vs. major conf. opponents.

Generally it is guys from categories 1 & 3 who come in an help right away. In year 1 LSU took more guys from 1&3 (Daniels, Bernard-Converse, Wingo, Brooks, Lacy). In year 2 you started to see more guys from the 2nd category: JK Johnson, Harris, Lee, Anderson). This past season was a little bit of the same with guys like Jyaire Brown, Ausberry, Gilbert. However, it was the guys with a track record of projection: Daniels and Zavion Thomas who produced for you.

BK's initial approach was to if at all possible only take guys with multiple years of eligibility left. Sometimes even if they didn't have much production at their former school. This year you may see him shift a bit to putting a greater emphasis on past production rather than potential
