Why does Louisiana in general struggle to produce good OL?

When’s the last real blue chip OL to cone out of the state? La’El Collins? That was a decade ago.

That's the problem. Good OL are not really "fat" like you are thinking. They are large men, but carry themselves really well and are very athletic and strong.

This. You see it when they leave the NFL, drop 50 lbs and are like 245 with a six pack.

I don’t think it’s any coincidence that the most fertile ground for good OL prospects is the the Corn Belt where you have lots of farmland and families with multiple children.

It really is crazy the amount of calories they have to put down and burn to play OL in the league. Joe Thomas didn’t even look like a linemen a year after he retired.

Maybe it’s high school coaching, development and training facilities.

Louisiana schools are poor. The S&D programs in Texas, Alabama, Georgia and Florida are better funded? We grow skill players at will. The best of the big bodies focus on defense even if they play both ways in HS.

Maybe we’re not recruiting the Houston and SE Texas areas well enough for OL?

Most Louisiana kids, especially in the south, are short.

You want big 6’+ monsters and Louisiana mostly produces kids no taller than 5’8”
