Why do top players want more attention?

If you already have the top 3 best programs making offers, what is the benefit of releasing a top choices list? It is not like you can't go to any school you want. I don't get the need for so much attention. I guess if they really need that much attention, they could announce their top 100, 99 days from NSD and each day have a press conference to announce one school who was dropped from the list!

Because they are 17-18year old kids and social media, websites, scouts, schools, etc are willing to give them that much attention.

But don't act like all top players want more attention. LF hated the recruiting process and all the attention, but when you that big of a recruit alot of the attention is forced on you, no matter if you want it or not. Some guys do want it, but not all.

Can't only blame the kids. You can also blame espn for treating some of these kids like superstars before theyre old enough to get a drivers license.

Because their kids and it's the 21st century where there are many social networks and outlets that publicize them. All kids want attention. It's not a difficult question.

One of the problems some high school coaches have is finding a helmet big enough for their top star recruit.

Love Fournette, but he liked the attention also. Otherwise he would have committed to LSU much earlier. He was not nearly as bad as these other kids though.

well, then, to be fair you can also blame us and this board.

but again, they are kids. Kids have a lot of time on their hands and seek attention. It comes with being young and naive.

According to LF, his family, and coaches, he absolutely hated the recruiting process and the media attention.

quote:

Otherwise he would have committed to LSU much earlier

Or maybe he wanted to take his time and not make a rash, impulsive decision and have to decommit from a school later down the road. And he's said that it was a very close race with LSU and Alabama. Maybe he actually needed most of the time and visits to help him make the best decision for him. Becasue these are 17-18 year old kids making probably the most important decisions of their lives up to this point.

And just because someone commits early doesn't mean that they didn't want all the attention. And just because someone doesn't commit until an All American Game or NSD doesn't mean that they want all the attention and drama. Sure, some guys do. But not all.

Hell some of the more dramatic recruitments happened with players that were already committed to us. Godchaux a few years ago was crazy and he was committed for a while to LSU. Just this past recruiting year, Glen Logan's recruitment got a little crazy down the stretch and he was committed to us for a while as well. And Erick Fowler was committed to us for over a year and bailed at the last second. And those are just off the top of my head. A verbal commitment means absolutely nothing.

And again, these are 17-18year olds making a huge decision. I'm ok with them taking their time, and it doesn't mean that they all just want more attention or whatever. Vice versa with a kid that is committed early on, doesn't mean that they committed early because they don't want attention.

I would say it's a couple of things that factor into this. Obviously, these are kids and social media plays a big part in their lives now. These kids are virtual heroes at their high schools and, let's get real, what kid doesn't enjoy the attention from the girls....and media. They feel like a king right now.

Secondly, most of these kids going to the NFL are jumping ship at the three year mark now. They're now starting to build their "brand" in high school whereas before social media the hype wouldn't have started until college.

I don't fault these kids for what they're doing. They may end up being a total failure when they get to college. This might be the only time the light shines bright on them. Let them have their 15 minutes.

Do I like it? No, but it is they way it works today.

Leonard Fournette committed to LSU and Decommitted in the 9th grade. But you probably don't know that so I guess he is the devil now right???

I am not talking about players committing and then de-committing, that is a different issue. I am talking about the top 3 schools that turned into their to 5 schools, that turned into their top 10 schools and now they are doing top 15. If you are at 15, you may as well say you have no idea where you are going.

Because at that age, it's fun for many of them.

Not a big deal.

You're just being bitter. A top 5, a top 10 is fun and easier to keep up with. Suggesting a top 100 is being extreme.

They owe you nothing. Appreciate the ones that do make it simpler if you like, but also appreciate the ones who choose your team late as well.

So you are saying Fournette didn't have a top 5 list of LSU Bama Texas USC and later Michigan?
