Why do I only remember the misses that ended up being not so good?

I don't follow recruiting much at all these days but I was trying to think of some of our recruiting misses that ended up being really good and I'm only getting big Cam Robinson. By miss I mean guys that we for sure knew we had.

Hootie
Tony Brown
Gerald Willis?
Duke Williams
Dylan Moses
Gunner No Chest Kiel
Speedy Noil

Some of these guys were talked about as generational talents

Wasn’t Dylan Moses a multi-time All American?

Patrick Surtain II is one of the few prospects that burned us and truly panned out

Eli Ricks and Cam Robinson - same
And Landon Collins

But, yeah. I can name many more who didn’t pan out or weren’t nearly as good as they were supposed to be for whatever reason

ETA Although I can’t remember whether we ever thought that we had Cam

I remember thinking Clifton Garrett was going to be an All-American at linebacker.

edit: Not necessarily a miss considering we landed him, but didn’t pan out.

Clifton Garrett, was one of my most looked forward to recruits. I just knew he was going to be Ray Lewis out there.

WAYYYYY Wrong

Saivion Smith was the OG Eli Ricks. He was actually pretty good here as a freshman and then sucked at Bama. He blew his knee out in the natty getting burned on a TD never to be heard from again.

Moses was good, but he was hyped up so much early in his high school career that he never lived up to those lofty expectations. Injuries were his biggest problem.

Landon Collins picking Bama over LSU was an all time melt on this board

IIRC he broke his leg before his junior year and was never the same. Bama got one good year out of him his sophomore season.

I remember the melt when clips from the HS AA game came out and he looked slow as frick and everyone tried to convince themselves that those practices don't mean anything

And I guess they really don't (see Landon Jackson gif), but in this case, everyone should have believed their eyes

This was not a bust. He turned out to be a very good player for them. Was an AA. He didn't have the professional career he wanted but he was still a very good player.

Landon Collins was another one missed that turned out to be a very good player for Alabama. Eddie Lacy was another one.

Who was the DE that basically lived on LSU's campus that turned out to be really good? Tim Williams? I think that was him. He was a U high recruit and did very good at Bama as a pass rusher.
