I wouldn't say thier is a king of recruiting but their are a few tiers
Tier 1
Carroll, Miles, Saban, Meyer, Stoops, Brown (Notice they all have a NC)
Tier 2
everybody else all clumped up

Miles, Saban, and Carrol pull alot of out-of-state talent.
Yeah..I agree, but a lot easier to recruit to LSU, Bama and SC then bumfrick OK State, VA Tech and Kansas...
Since we are all familiar with Nutt and his supposed "recruiting woes"...how would he fair at any of these 3 schools? I don't know...

DA. I'm not with you on the Pete Carroll thing. He enjoys several advantages. He owns Southern California... and then has the resources of the area he's in... the CHICKS in the area he's in. I dunno man. It's a whole lot easier to get a kid to "come to Hollywood!" than it is to get him to "come to Alabama!". Just my opinion.

If you don't say Saban... you better have a damned good argument. For the record, I put LSU (Miles) at #2. frick Pete Carroll, he gets all of southern California. Might as well have a whole country to himself. Discuss.
===============================================
OK, I'm back, I'll lock and load.
Take Saban's 4 best years EVER (according to Rivals, your own home state recruiting network)
and Saban finishes dead last in this 5 coach comparison.
Just a current example here.
Per Rivals over their last 4 recruiting classes,
Saban (*) being 2004 as he was in the pros in
Coach 06#/Avg- -07#/avg- -08 #/avg- -09 #/avg
Meyer 27-3.89 27-3.89 22-3.82 16-3.94
Miles 25-3.64 26-3.88 26-3.58 24-3.79
Saban(*) 28-3.54 25-3.28 32-3.72 27-3.81
Carrol 25-3.96 18-4.22 19-3.89 19-3.89
Brown 25-3.60 24-3.79 20-3.55 20-3.85
SUMMARIZING THE LAST 4 RECRUITING CLASSES FOR THEM:
CARROL-- 81 players 3.99 AVERAGE, ALSO HIGHEST
AVERAGE IN RIVALS HISTORY (4.22) You can't say it's "because of USC" or the LA area, or else you need to remove the "Florida/Bama" reputation or southeastern talent. Carroll is a offensive genius, a great manager and surrounds himself with defensive coaching talent.
MEYER-- 92 players -3.89 average, highest in SEC history He develops offensive talent better than any other coach. And surrounds himself
with great defensive coaches
------------------------------------------------
These are the two best recruiters. They also have the best talent available.
------------------------------------------------
MILES 101 players 3.72 average, lower average than first two higher than the last two
Miles is a very good offensive coach who, like Carroll, needs a great D staff. He has one now, so lookout. People should Fear the Hat, he is
incredibly saavy and underrated. His loyalty and
stubborn behavior bites him in the arse at times.
BROWN 89 players 3.69 average, signs same, lower avg. Brown overall coaching ability is overrated and his loss of supporting offensive and defensive coaches will eventually lead to his demise. He looks, shall I say, baffaled when he is the hunted, like against Texas Tech last year.
These two coaches get players, near same quality, better depth.
------------------------------------------------
Now to make the point.
SABAN 112 players 3.59 average, has the lowest avg, and signs the most players His ability to sign an athlete and fit him into another position also is something the coaches above can't do as well. He, like Miles, is also
stubborn, and his mental lapses are recounted here over and over. He is the best defensive coach, but is usually only as good as his QB/OC, a fact supported several times over at MSU, LSU and even at Miami. It may be Saban's demise this year as well. Bottom line, Saban is a mixed bag, but without a doubt is the hardest recruiter.
Keep in mind, Saban's supposeded #1 recruiting classes still are not better than Meyer or Carroll's AVERAGE classes.
--------------------------------------------
Now before BamainHsv has a meltdown, this is no slam on any coach or winner here.
But... facts are indisputable that Saban, while winning recruiting titles, usually signs a ton more players to do so.
The numbers don't lie.
A better question: Would Carroll do as well at LSU or Bama? Would Brown do as well at LSU? How would Spurrier do at any of these locations?
Image the Fun N Gun against those PAC 10 defenses. How may 4th downs would Miles convert
at USC.. or would he even punt?
Would Saban work like a manic in LA or Florida, or work on his hair more often? Would Miles be as successful at UF as Meyer? Probably, after all, Zook's players won the Meyers first NC.... right? For that matter, LSU started 16 players on the NC team that Dinardo signed.
There are numerous EASY arguments that prove many are just as good or better as Saban, and IMO, the first two are better, and the second two are equal or better.
Does that make him the worst recruiter of the 5?
Like all high school talent evaluations,
it's all speculation.
Given it all, I think Urban Meyer is the best.

I have to say Mack Brown does the best at Texas, then Miles or Saban can be interchanged at this point, then Pete, Urban, and I'd even give credit to App State's coach for pulling in some quality players at a D-1 AA school.
