Weis' Star ratings look good but it seems like the top talent is not distributed evenly on both sides of the ball.
5* qb/RB/WR is important but to be a winner you need a lot of 3/4* guys up front on both sides

Pete and it isn't as close as most may argue.

I must disagree with this as Florida has 3 top notch football school whereas California only has one. And please don't bring UCLA and/or Cal into a top notch discussion.

ED O. Every where he goes ends up full of talent. I dont know how he does it but he is the best.

UCLA outrecruited Miami last year and we go head to head with Notre Dame more than anyone else, who is a top recruiting school.
If Carroll was simply living off California talent, he shouldn't be able , in a 3 year span, to take Louisiana's top player, Michigan's top player twice, Arizona's top player twice, two of the top players from Georgia, and multiple top players from Florida.... yeah he can't recruit

Who said he can't recruit. However, the truth of the matter is that USC doesn't have to recruit instate kids as hard as a school like Florida which leaves a lot more time for flying around the country cherry picking talent.

USC still has to recruit against ND and UCLA who have taken a bunch of talent since weis and Slick Rick have been there. This was true a couple years ago, but not any more.

anybody say coach O??
If it werent for him, Ole miss would have been irrelevant once again last season. And cant look beyond what he did at USC

LSU
2006: 12 out of state players, 14 from LA (including Keiland Williams who is from LA but went to Hargrave).

comparing a state state of 4 million to one of 36 million is impossible. LSU has major strong holds in southern texas because of that fact and has for a very long time

LSU has also signed players from Georgia, South Florida, and Michigan. The program isn't national, but both Les and Saban have done a great job expanding beyond LA and bringing top players.
The huge success in Southern Texas is relatively recent, and Les is competing with UT, Oklahoma, A&M, and Oklahoma State for players in a hundred mile radius. I'm not saying that Carroll is not an excellent recruiter. He clearly is, but he doesn't have to do as much as Les, Stoops, Weis, or Saban.

I think Les is one of the best recruiters in the country. You're not going to get any argument from me on that.
But if you're going to compare in-state to out of state recruits, the average distance from BR for an LSU recruit is 259 miles compared to 486 for USC, which is a more telling stat imo. I think denegrating Carroll's recruiting record is foolish. just my personal opinion, but I'd rather have carroll recruiting for my team more than anyone else other than Coach O maybe

That's a pretty interesting stat, but if Les is going after a prospect in Alabama, he is fighting with Saban and Tuberville (now Trooper). If it's a Houston-based player, he is going up against Stoops and Mack. In South Florida, he has to go against Florida and Miami. If Carroll is going after someone in Stockton or Modesto, who is he competing against? Some of the best out of state guys he has landed came from Arizona. I don't think many recruits would rather play for Mike Stoops or Dirk Koetter.

Pete does a great job with out of state guys.
Posted on 5/7/09 at 3:49 pm to Keys Open Doors
True but Louisiana has to put atleast what 10 guys or more in the top 250 almost every year and out of those 10 LSu will land 8-10 of em. I think recruiting at LSu would have to be one of the easier jobs in CFB if LSU is winning.

I agree that Pete and Coach O are great recuiters, but I do think that Miles is as good as them. While LA is a talent rich state, it is not as talent rich as CA, and Pete has the advantage of recruiting people to a school that the media loves. Also how can you not sell playing in a major city without a pro team??? I mean that place sells itself: top program, L.A. weather, tons of girls, and no competition for the spotlight.
Coach O is just good, and I'm not sure why

He's a terrible head coach, but the dude can flat out recruit. shite, just look at the talent he had stockpiled on a terrible ole miss team. Nutt walked into a gold mine
