re: Who is LA's next elite QB?

Wrong, BYU was a two back west coast team, AKA Bill Walsh/ Sid Gillman offense Not air raid, make sure your facts are straight before you post. Their QB'S were taught good footwork, mechanics, and fundamentals. Rarely in the shotgun if ever. Everything was two back based probably 90-95% two back. The QB of that 1984 BYU team was Robbie Bosco. As far as Oklahoma, they were a mix of Leach's stuff and a power run game, so it was not exactly air raid and definetly not the Tony Franklin version.

Ok do you even know anything about offensive football?
The Air Raid system can be run out of any formation and either under Center and in the Shotgun. The Air Raid offense was created & originated from Coach Lavell Edwards at BYU. It is the offense that was used then and know. BYU is the school where Hal Mumme went in the mid 1980's to study the offensive system you know today as the "Air Raid" and also where he met Mike Leach who was a GA at BYU. I know who the QB was back then I don't need a history lesson.
Oklahoma was running exactly what Leach was running don't try to create BS to support your totally inaccurate post. The Tony Franklin system is essentially the Air Raid and he also took it and made it public in order to make a buck.
You need to get your facts straight before you post my fellow Tiger Fan.

The beggining of this thread was about elite QB's and why there aren't that many in Louisiana anymore!
ACTUALLY... The OP was:
quote:
Who is projected to be our next elite QB prospect?
littledocfenton turned it into:
quote:
Name me some good fundamental Louisiana High School QB coaches. Someone that can teach good passing mechanics.
Now if you want to talk about the best QB coach in the state you'd have to go to Texas. Why TX? Because Sid Edwards and his little coaching mafia ran him out of LA.
Weiner and Mahaffey both got the jobs they have now because of their so-called credit for the offense at Central. But the only reason they were any good is because Will Briscoe was coached by this guy:
Chris Towery
Everywhere he has gone the next year's OC has had major success because he groomed the QB for them.

Rodney Guin at Haughton
He's got a huge QB talent coming up in about 4 years. I've posted this before 3 times on this board. Not my kid or any relation. But I think Guin knows who the kid is.

Dash Duncan at St Michael will be a recruit. Might not be the next elite 5* guy but he will play somewhere on the next level.
I also believe Tuerlings Catholic has a QB that is a prospect

Not inaccurate if you know anything about Lavell Edwards, you know that the old BYU offense was based on the West Coast offense made famous by Bill Walsh. A lot of the concepts are the same. Lavelle Edwards wrote a book about the west coast offense. Which is in its beginning form (when BYU won the title) was a two back offense. Look the book up and you will see what I'm talking about. I know that Mumme took a lot of these concepts and came up with the Air Raid, similar but they are different. I also understand that sytems can be run from a lot of different looks, my point was those old BYU QB's were under center and had more sucess in the NFL, because they were taught techniques that helped them play in pro-style offenses.

Obviously, Louisiana is not known as a QB powerhouse.
Naw, Louisiana has just produced...Terry Bradshaw, Joe Ferguson, Bert Jones, Doug Williams, Stan Humpheries, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Kordell Stewart, Bobby Hebert, Jake Delhomme. Just to name a few of the top of my head...

Littledocfenton- don't you agree that your friend is the best around?
I mean every time he leaves a school the offense explodes the next year, yet these other 2nd rate coaches get all the credit.

Watch what you say about people you don't know. I know what happened at Central and I know the "guy" that was there before Weiner was a a good coach

I know who him and yes I think he is good coach. This post has nothing to do with him. We are talking about offensive systems and what kind of QB's they produce. No one said they were 2nd rate coaches.

Booty and Pederson don't help with QBs? Doug used to throw to us at WM in the offseason. You could hear the ball coming before you turned your head to catch it.
Nevermind Doug, just looked him up and saw he's with the Eagles now.

Towery was horrible at Winnfield plain horrible. He taught the QBs there to have this weird short arm hitch throwing motion and it bombed. Briscoe had a weird throwing motion that you can probably credit Towery for as well.

Good point.
I just thought you said earlier the thread was about QB coaches so I brought up the best I've ever seen.
Thomas Bachman (Bastrop OC) is a Mike Leach/Tony Franklin System/Air Raid guy and we both think he is a very good coach.
I know you saw Mahaffey coach QB's at a camp before. What camp was that? I don't want to send my son to that camp!

Yeah he is terrible. You are right. Everyone has an opinion, I think he does a decent job, but thats just my opinion.
Posted on 12/7/10 at 8:59 pm to littledocfenton
Did you send your son to the camp? How did you get to watch the camp? Is it open to the public?
Posted on 12/7/10 at 9:01 pm to Actually
Yeah the Manning Camp is open for people to watch.
Posted on 12/7/10 at 9:05 pm to littledocfenton
I'm not trying to say you are not correct but Mahaffey has always coached WR's at the Manning Camp. Not QB's.
