How many Mike Leach QB's are in the NFL? None-zero, because they are system guys who were not developed to be the total QB.

Well there is some merit to what you're saying but I on the other hand could care less what anyone does in the NFL because I'm not an NFL fan. I'm a college guy. Do you realize that Mike Leach didn't have big time 5 Star QB's at Texas Tech? It's not like he had guys with incredible arms and great athletes. Yeah none have done anything in the NFL but who really cares? I can promise you because I have been around Leach, Holgerson, Mumme plenty of times to know that they do coach up the fundamentals of being a complete QB. Most of the offense's in the NFL are under the center, "pro style" offense's.

I think it's safe to say that Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady & Phillip Rivers have more than shown what you can do in the NFL when you spread people out and chunk the ball all over the place.

Doing great in the NFL at QB is anything but an exact science. You have to have talent yes, but you have to be on a good team with playmakers and a good enough system to take advantage of your skill set to be successful.

Maybe Air Raid & other spread passing offensive QB's haven't done much in the NFL but they sure do tear it up in high school & College at every level. And since we are talking about high school & college level QB's that's all that really matters.

Bradshaw was before Ferguson and Jones. You can't forget James Harris and Doug Williams on that list either.

No, what we are talking about is people who can coach and develop QB's not just people that have QB's that put up numbers in a system. Don't confuse the two. I was talking about pure QB fundamentals. By the way when is the last time an Air Raid team has won a national championship? Never. Nick Saban is one of the best in the game, if he thought that was the way to go offensively trust me he would hire a coordinator to put that in. Mike Leach and Tony Franklin will be the first ones to tell you they are not great fundamental QB coaches. Getting a guy that already is fundamental sound and watching him put up big numbers is not the same as "developing" a QB. I'm not saying Leach and Franklin are bad coaches because they are good ones, but the are not fundamental qb gurus. The beggining of this thread was about elite QB's and why there aren't that many in Louisiana anymore!

No one we know of. If the odds stay true, within the next 5 yrs or so, there will be another can't miss kid. The class of 2010 was the best overall and deepest in years. The Baton Rouge area didn't have the can't miss kid, but a number ok high school QB's signed scholarships (at least 8 just from greater BR in 1 class). 2011 is way down by comparison.

Obviously, Louisiana is not known as a QB powerhouse.
Sports Illustrated Dec 27, 2004-Jan 3, 2005 Year-End Double Issue "The Great American Sports Atlas" ..... "What's the secret in LOUISIANA?" ..... somewhere in that magazine, an article _ "Where The QBs Come From" ...Though it ranks fourth in total signal callers produced since 1970, Louisiana has sent more passers per capita to the NFL than any other state in that span.

Most of them coming early in the era covered by the article. Thoses QB's were QB's that understood the game. Not the Meercat Qb's of today that can't change a play a the line of scrimmage without looking at the sideline for their coach to do it for them. I heard a guy on one of the sports radio talk shows talking about today's QB's not being able to handle stuff a the line of scrimmage like they did in the past. He said he hated watching Meercat offenses and that some coaches today don't teach as well as some of coaches from yesterday did. I can't remember who the guy was, but he had an interesting take on the change in the game. I'm not saying I agree with him totaly but I think in some ways he has a point.

there are good coaches all over this state. I don't think you find qb "experts" too often in high school. What do you measure a coach by? His ability to develope a QB? His ability to win games? Or his ability to build and sustain a championship caliber?

That seems more important than qb footwork..

I saw the Beckwith kid from East Feliciana on film against someone, and i was very impressed. Looked extremely athletic and appeared to have pretty good size. I saw him for about 15 plays, and he definitely stood out. Can anyone give more opinions and details on this kid.

This thread was about QB's and QB coaches. That is what we are talking about. Not coaches overall. There are plenty of great coaches that are specialist at something else. This thread is about QB COACHES. That is why I discussed it.

The Best QB coaches in the state to go play under in Louisiana that will really coach up the little things and make a total QB are:

Phillip Deas at Evangel
Steve Geter at Loyola College Prep
Rodney Guin at Haughton
Bo Meeks at Calvary
Don Jones at Woodlawn

Outside of these coaches it's slim pickings. Now there are other pretty good coaches out there that have some good systems and will do a good job of developing a good high school QB but if you are looking for a program where a QB will be made College ready the 4 above programs would be your best bet.
