He doesn't count against any class since we are under 85. Its like giving a walk on a scholarship if one is available.

yeah im not sure what class but if he counts towards the 2012 class then wouldnt that be the same as this years 85?
Posted on 8/2/12 at 3:47 pm to redfieldk717
Should not count against any roster limitations.

He doesn't count against the 85 in 2012, but it doesn't matter currently because we were under 85.
He will count against the 85 in each year he is here beginning in 2013.
He doesn't count towards a 25 man signing class ever.
All of this is per Les.

its basically a free player that doesnt count.

Next year, not this year, he will count for the 2012 class.

False, as the poster above you said, he'll count starting next year.

Pardon a Bama fan intrusion, but as I understand the rules regarding PSU transfers is he will count against the 85 this yr, which won't matter since y'all are under 85. If you don't count him or were already at 85, you would be reduced 1 spot next yr to 84. I would think since y'all have room, he will count this yr to save the extra spot for next yr.

This is correct.

Sad that a Bama fan has to come in with the correct answer.

i think he counts againt the 2012 25 (b/c we're below 25) schollie limit but that means we have one less ee back counter for 2013. in essence, costing us a 2013 spot. but i definitely could b wrong

This is the correct answer. Due to the situation at PSU the rules have been waived and these men can transfer anywhere, play immediately, and do not count against the 85. He's a freebie...

From the NCAA:
I'm not quite sure how this is working for USC though:
quote:
•If a student-athlete transfers for the fall of 2012 to a school that has reached its scholarship limits, the school may exceed these numbers for the 2012-13 academic year, provided it reduces such limits proportionately in the 2013-14 academic year. For example, if one student-athlete transfers to a Division I school already at the legislated limits of 25 initial counters and 85 overall counters for 2012-13, the school will be limited to 24 initial counters and 84 overall counters in 2013-14
I'm not quite sure how this is working for USC though:
quote:
•A school subject to scholarship limits due to an infractions case is allowed to accept transfers from Penn State but cannot exceed the scholarship limits specified in its infractions report. Athletically-related financial aid may not be canceled during the period of the award and these schools are not permitted the same exception allowed to schools not under Committee on Infractions sanctions

I think that means as long as USC is at their 75 (including Redd) prior to the award period (academic year) they are ok.
However their 2012 initial counter limit was maxed out so it is going to cost them a spot in the 2013 class....which they are currently maxed out with 18 commitments.
ETA: But if that comment also refers to their initial counter limit I guess one player from their 2012 class wouldn't be able to enroll in order to fit Redd in.

That's how I see it, but I haven't seen anything with their behavior that suggests it. Haven't been looking though.
