Was in Alexandria today watching my nephew from Central play. Alexandria had a sophomore named Jack Lee throwing high 80s and good off speed. He had 10 strikeouts. Had me wondering if baseball is like football recruiting with kids at the freshman/sophomore age being heavily recruited.

Can’t officially make contact with guys until august before their junior year. So 2027s can be evaluated but not talked to.

If Ja-Braxton isn’t being scouted by the pros by age 10 he might as well hang it up.

Usually sophomore year in hs is the point when teams start really pursuing a good player and doling out Schollys...fall before their Jr season like the guy posted above. Unless it's an absolute freakshow of a player like bregman etc.

My cousins boy was offered by LSU as a freshman but, I believe, that was before the no contact rule before Junior year. This was 2019.

Not sure, but my daughter is a sophomore from Central playing volleyball. While we haven’t been directly recruited, She has been receiving letters to come to camps put on by different universities.

I think it’s a way around the age/class rule. I do know a lot of the recruiting going on now days comes from recruiting services. These services collect videos, of kids that are good, which is video the kids parents took, pay them to compile it into a single video, and start sending it to every university they can.

The coaches either don’t have the time, or desire to go look at kid in person so they have people that do that for them. Outside of football, I doubt any of the other sports coaches even care about high school sports anymore. It’s all about travel ball, and big tournaments. It’s a way for scouts to see multiple “recruits” at the same place, at the same time.

Again, this is outside of football.. The camps, and club sports tournaments are where they look now.

Yes, 19 years ago my left handed 9 year old pitched in a district Dixie youth tournament game, had 3 doubles, 12 Ks, and a travel ball coach was calling on Sunday morning. Yes, it was ridiculous.
The TB coach went on to coach at a D2 school and actually signed that son to a scholarship when he graduated HS. Crazy stuff but CSB.

According to most parents on the daddy ball circuit, their little Brayden has been getting offers since Coach-pitch.

I coached Jack in 14U travel ball right before his freshman year. He's a great player and even better person. He can pitch, play the field, and can drop bombs! Great parents too! We love them. He will be a hot commodity for colleges really soon.

He threw well but I can't believe his coach let him throw 102 pitches in the game. Seen way too many pitchers going over 100 pitches early in the season.

As for recruiting, it depends. I will use the Knights organization as an example that they seem to do a good job getting their players names out. Also, PBR gets their names out too if they do one of their showcases early. On the flip side, I have seen some kids just fly under the radar because they aren't involved in organizations such as the Knights and not have offers until Senior year. Jack being at a 5A school will help him be noticed as well.

The current contact rule has only been in affect for 2 years now. Some kids had already been in discussions with coaches if they were noticed early.

Now ask yourself, was the current rule in place when Curiel was in the 7th grade?

I made the post because my brother talks as though he is knowledgeable on the good players in the state. This young man was not on his radar but i thought he was real good for a 15/16 year old kid.
