ESPN and Rivals are a lost cause

It doesn’t. It gives equal ranking to them all.

Yeah, factoring in a has-been like Rivals and a never-was in ESPN is a great idea.

If it makes you feel better, average On3 and 247 since they are the only services that matter. That would be 8.5, so 8th or 9th nationally depending on how you want to round.

It’s still top 10 as much as a few of you obviously don’t want it to be.

There are only two services that have the evaluators and staff to be taken seriously at this point. ESPN needs to be removed completely, no matter what. They really don’t even have a staff that can grade beyond a handful of players at the top. Their ranking is a joke and has been for years.

Rivals still has some staff, but they aren’t anywhere close to On3 and 247 at this point. Average On3 and 247 own rankings and you’ll get some balance without bullshite.

On3 does give them weighted averages, but I still think that’s more than ESPN deserves.

ESPN doesn’t have Weston Davis as a Top 300 player and On3 has him as a 5 star. That alone costs LSU a couple spots in the rankings, which shows how little credibility they have.

It’s definitely not as dumb as including ESPN ratings in the average. ESPN has Weston Davis, the 5th ranked OT per On3, with offers from LSU, Alabama, Texas A&M and Oklahoma, unranked nationally. 90+ rated on the non-ESPN sites… 80 rating on ESPN.

Yet the casuals melt and downvote anything remotely neutral to positive because it doesn’t fit their bullshite narrative.

This class doesn’t suck. It isn’t amazing either, but it’s really solid. Add McKinley and you can say LSU absolutely locked down the state. Build on those connections to close on what could be a massive class next year.

The offensive class is great across the board. Defense is more uneven, but there are some guys who have shown out in LA, TX and MS, all states with very competitive HS football, who have what feel like low ratings relative to their play and importance to their teams. Hopefully they translate the way I think the staff believes they will.

One big overlooked positive is how many of the defensive recruits are early enrollees. All of a pretty impressive LB class will be here for Spring, which is great.

I believe that. I have not seen the algorithms but I think both use more than those 4, though I am not certain.

247 was always my go-to source and I liked the composite but that was back when Rivals and Scout were both still reasonable. Now I worry a bit about them as well since CBS Sports has owned them since 2016 and Shannon Terry has raided a lot of their better people.

Lmao the problem I have is paying Brian Kelly $100 million for classes like these. This is the reason people criticized him at ND. His career here is riding on sweeping 2025/2026.

Somehow people on here think classes like this can compete with Georgia, Bama and Texas. When it comes to the playoffs and championship, the talent differential is too wide. Especially on defense.

It’s a top 10 class, that is solid from top to bottom.

Rivals has LSU at 13 ESPN has LSU at 15 Those last two drag the composite or industry standard down. Also, both are notoriously bad.

Would they both be notoriously bad if LSU was in the top five of their rankings?

You are on record ranting about how our recruiting sucks across the board. Please explain your specific issues with the offensive class. Do you have any? Do you really think the offensive staff can’t close or is struggling in any way? If so, I would love to hear an argument you think can hold any water.

The blanket statements you throw out there are total fricking 13 year old girl on her period, over-dramatic bullshite. THe simple truth is there are 0 issues with offensive recruiting. The staff there isn’t a problem. Kelly is not some anchor on our recruiting in general, which is absolutely the picture you are always trying to paint.

We all know the defensive staff needs to be overhauled to fix both the play on the field and recruiting. No one is even arguing that. That still doesn’t mean this defensive class sucks and can’t be part of a group of better and more balanced classes and portal acquisitions that absolutely can compete with any other team in the SEC. Let’s not forget we had a 10-15 range class that made up the heart of the 2019 team, but it was bolstered with some transfers and a great follow-up class. You are projecting your biases into the future. I’m going to wait and see what actually happens after the staff changes come.

Now it’s 100% on Kelly to fix this. I don’t dispute that at all. He makes a lot of money and the buck stops there. House is his problem to fix.

However, since you claim to be objective- answer this question truthfully. Would you have fired House after last season? The defense probably performed at least to its talent level, if not over after a complete offseason overhaul in 22. We landed Howard, Womack, Weeks and Toviano among others in the 23 class. I don’t see how anyone can look at the play on the field or recruiting and say firing him would have been justified.

I think at least 90-95% believe House should be fired today and I am definitely in that group. Obviously the results on and off the field this season were too poor to justify him keeping his job no matter what happened before. But are you really going to rage against the head coach for not being fricking clairvoyant? As long as Kelly makes the move now so we can move on to 25 with the right people in place, then he’s done what he is supposed to do.

Kelly certainly got his three previous DC hires right, so let’s see what happens rather than melting at every fricking thing that isn’t done according to your personal playbook.

Yes, because no one respects or uses those services anymore. But if you want to go by ESPN and Rivals in the year of damn near 2024 to fit a narrative, be my guest.

YES. They are objectively not at the level of the other two services. If ESPN had LSU with the number 1 class I would tell you the same.

On3 and 247 are all that matter. Period.
