quote:Stuff like this doesn't work when discussing UGA's offense. Sure efficacy is a great statistic on offense as a whole, but let's break down their offense a bit by the games.
Georgia's 2023 Offensive Stats Nationally:
Scoring Offense - 5th Nationally
Offensive 3rd Down Conversions - 1st Nationally
Team Passing Efficiency - 5th Nationally
Total Offense Yards Per Game - 5th Nationally
They scored 24 at home vs South Carolina
They scored 27 on the road vs Auburn
They scored 30 at home vs Mizzou
They scored 24 in the championship game vs Bama
UGA put up 63 points vs essentially FSU's JV squad. If anybody pays attention to FSU, almost their entire starting unit was transfers. The rest of the two deep were guys who had stayed 4+ years. The vast majority of the starting unit and a chunk of the 2nd string didn't play vs UGA. Stuff like that is going to boost your numbers up way higher.
It's like people getting mad at Dan Mullen and Kyle Trask for getting blown out by a great Oklahoma team in 2020. Their top 4 pass catchers opted out. The passing game was their offense. They were averaging around 400 passing yards per game in the regular season that year. They essentially lost their offense before playing Oklahoma.
With all that said, UGA beat the breaks off of two of the 3 ranked teams they played in the regular season. They are still at the top of the hill, and we still have a ways to go to reach them. I believe LSU will prove this year that they have without a doubt, Offensive prowess over them. We don't need the same exact recruiting numbers as them. As long as we have a top 5 level and have great coaches to teach those guys, we can compete with UGA on a yearly basis.

Even Nick Saban took 4 years to build up enough great personnel to win a natty

They’ve gone through a very recent facility facelift but wasn’t the case two years ago

I was talking about his time at LSU.
Also, Saban recruited multiple #1 classes at Bama before winning that natty, so it supports my point anyway.

You’re cherry-picking really specific stats to support your argument and it’s not working.
You have to look at the whole picture to get an idea of what’s going on. Not just a narrow view with the really specific information that you reached for.

Kirby has won games the same way Saban did, all those years.
Superior talent& depth
It’s not rocket science, great players make coaches look good.

Just win more games. Kids flock to a winner.
LOL at the dumb-shite that down voted this. You probably think all of those kids went to Alabama because of Saban’s sunny disposition. Get fricked.

First downvote for this post.
Saban and Kirby knew how to recruit before they were winning big. That’s how they eventually became winners. The question is how have they done this? Saban did it at LSU after all of our horrible seasons in the 90’s.

Not saying then don’t spend more then us but looking at this 2025 class somebody I spending a boatload with what we have signed. Looking at this visitors list tells me we aren’t stopping soon.

Georgia really doesn't get as many guys out of their home state as people think

With the transfer portal being the way it is now, you’ll see more of a focus on Ga and the southeast in hopes that they are more likely to stay home.

Their facilities are way better than ours, IMO.
They didn’t even have an indoor facility until recently. I doubt facilities is the issue.
Win championships brings in more top tier talent.

Stop saying this dumb shite. I already explained why it’s wrong.

I would think our natural recruiting footprint (all of LA and into TX as far as Houston) is comparable to UGA's. After winning consecutive natty's and dethroning Saban, UGA became a national brand (even more so than before).
However, as the UGA poster notes above, in the NIL era they will likely prioritize homegrown recruits more. And IMO, so should we for the same reason.
After the '19 season and the '20 Covid season, our stories diverge. We, under moon-head Orgeron, went one way and they another. Now, CBK is reaching altitude. We have a staff of top-shelf recruiters recruiting top-shelf talent.

If folks really paid attention they'd understand, based on their results of top classes, just how amazing this is. A top 3 talent producing state(imo for football they've surpassed CA in quality if not sheer numbers) and Kirby still goes national. Amazing that they feel there is less competition for national recruits than those from their own state. The entire SEC and all ACC powers heavily recruit GA. It really does mean more.
Ways to thwart it, win and wait out the surge they are on much like we had to with Bama. It's essentially the same monster in our nightmares. We just don't have hard feelings towards Kirby like we do Saban.

I would say that Mississippi is part of our natural recruiting footprint as well. Probably Florida too because it’s close enough, has tons of talent, and we’ve been recruiting it and establishing ties there for years.

But I don't think Smart will be the same monster as Saban. Saban had a huge advantage recruiting in Louisiana and recruiting against LSU in that he was a former LSU head coach. Many Louisiana folks revere(d) Saban. They don't revere Smart. We don't have to worry as much about Smart plucking Louisiana players. That will help LSU be more competitive against Georgia/Smart than it was against Bama/Saban.
