Would be preferred walk-on at this time, per article.

ETA: 2015 TD thread about him...

Saw some chatter about him on this board earlier in the year. Sounds solid at a MUCH needed position.

Does TOPS still play in our favor in any way with in-state guys like this?

And honest question, what benefits would a player on a TOPS scholarship miss out on as a walk-on compared to athletic scholly?

Really want this guy, especially if Aranda wants him.

The kid was on the path to be a big recruit and had an ankle injury before his junior season that lingered pretty much the entire year. He didn't play until the last week or two. Then this year in an effort to help his team he moved to DE. He's a nasty MLB, would fit nicely in the 3-4. He's much more talented than his offer list for the ones that will downgrade him. Whether he chooses LSU or a scholarship elsewhere, I look for him to be a success in life. He's one of those guys that makes everyone around him better.

Watched him play quite a few times this year. Very agile and has really good closing speed. Best of all, he knows the fundamentals of how to tackle. Maybe not this coming up year, but over the next two years, he could earn some playing time.

Not too much of an expert on TOPS, but if he qualifies with the ACT requirement and GPA he will still get funding. Seems like a guy that would earn a scholarship quickly.

I'll take any and all West Monroe players. We absolutely have to get that school on lock down again. They show up to college well-coached and accustomed to a rigorous S & C program.

I could see this kid being a Ryan O'Neal type headhunter on special teams when it's all said and done.

He reminds me of previous WM kids that went to LSU...that had already hit their ceiling. (Mcconathy, Ledoux, and Shomari Clemons)

I think this kid would be better off at LA Tech or ULM. He's a little too big for his frame currently. Could be a big gap plug at ILB if LSU is going to run a true 3-4 but he's not running sideline to sideline.

Ledoux went to Texas A&M out of high school. Nick Saban didn't think he had reached his ceiling and had him on scholarship when he wanted to transfer back home, and the guy was a heavy contributor on a national championship defense. Bad example on your part.

West Monroe is the best high school program in the state, despite you cherry picking some guys that didn't pan out.

These are exactly the type of kids TCU has been getting from WM and winning with. He would be a perfect mike in DA's scheme in 2 years.

A full scholarship includes room and board, books, and other fees.

It's a pretty big difference for the headcount sports since a scholarship is a true full-ride (football and basketball). Less of a difference between TOPS and the equivalency sports (baseball and every other male sport) because those sports have more participants than scholarships so the scholarships are divided up.

I know what you're saying, but I'm not sure we strive to play like TCU's defense.

Missing on McFarland, Lathan, and Chucky Hunter was huge. Turpin is tiny and we werent the only big schools that missed on him. Otherwise LSU still gets whoever they want over TCU when it comes to the West Monroe pipeline.

Just like they do in baseball; if the kid has the grades he can get a full academic scholarship that covers the same and doesn't count against the athletic scholarship #s. Plus TOPS offers stipends for books, room and board, etc. if you have good enough scores and grades.

Played baseball against West Monroe kids my whole life growing up... they must have been juicing in Dixie Youth because those kids were all big and strong....

Or they eat a lot of deer meat, chicken and beef and work their arse off to compete against other kids doing the same.
