We lost Heard to the portal and Smith/wingo to the draft - where has all that $ gone?

I understand that we prefer to focus our NIL budget on HS recruiting and player retention - in fact, I think that is almost unequivocally the correct approach.
However, this means that a major chunk of our "player retention" money has gone unused. (1) Heard was a 5* at a premium position that teams are desperate to find, so I assume he was getting a fairly hefty sum. (2) We've gotten direct reporting that they'd set aside a big chunk of cash to retain Wingo and Smith.
So that's a lot of leftover money. Add to that the fact that we knew all along that we were going to need to make major DT additions in the portal, and you've got even more. So where has all of this gone?
I'm not even posting this to bitch - I'm genuinely asking: Is there something I'm missing? Shouldn't we be sitting on a pretty big barrel of money right now? I'm interested because, even if we miss on the remaining DTs, wouldn't the silver lining be that we'd now have extra $ to put towards this 2025 class? Or am i just totally miscalculating this?

Brian Kelly doesn’t like paying players. He’s all in on guys that actually wanting to be at LSU. This is a great idea in theory but we’re getting steam rolled on the NIL trail and our D line is awful for years to come. Nobody gives a shite about Bo Davis when money is on the table

You’re missing the biggest component. It’s not about having the money, it’s about resetting the baseline of NIL pay for your entire team based off of a decent one year player. If you have a guaranteed SEC stud, sure pay him. If you are bringing in a depth piece who’s unproven you don’t pay him so much that it upsets the rest of the team. It’s not the cost of paying him 500k-1 mil, it’s the total cost of now upping the ante for all of your DL and the stars on the team in general.
Should a transfer DL be getting more than your QB or a player like Perkins?

You have zero basis on this. You just made this up in your pea little brain.

LSU spent that money to retain all its current players. Players want new NIL deals every year, most likely asking for more than the year before so that’s where the extra money went. It’s why we didn’t have any starters transfer out when tons of other schools did.

I agree. we have zero idea what's going on. I saw a video of them eating and it looked really awkward. Someone was dancing behind him with a LED sign with his name on it. Just seemed desperate.....I know we are. I just think you go eat, you keep it football and business. These aren't HS recruits.

Yeah I dunno who decided that was a good idea. Might want to re-evaluate that role.

This is not true. I don't know why this board says this. LSU's entire team is getting "paid".

A lot just have to realize… everyone has money these days. Some programs will just outbid or not be a fit. It’s going to happen, we won’t just land guys because we are LSU.

Spot on.
In a vacuum, LSU can afford to give Williams his $1M+ NIL deal. What LSU can't afford is to do that and give Nuss, Campbell, Jones, Perkins, etc. etc. etc. $1M+ NIL commensurate with their production. If I am Perkins and I see Williams brought in at $1M+, you better believe I am telling the coaches I am worth $2M+

Again, it's not about the 1 player in a vacuum. It's about the 84 other players on the team.

Exactly, overpaying for NIL deals with players from the TP will create the domino effect with current loyal players who were signed out of HS.
It's definitely a players market when it comes to NIL. CFB programs either pay what a kid is demanding, or he moves on to the highest bidder.
Saban has always demanded respect from his players and had 100% control of the football program. He walked away from coaching because players now have zero loyalty, and they are asking coaches "how much are you gonna pay me ? "

I trust BK & Company in roster management. I agree with the overall roster health as several have pointed out. Also the 2025 class is going to be expensive. It is what it is.

You know this is all based on your feelings and zero facts right?

The plan moving forward will be similar to UGA. Build via HS, retain players, and only rely on the portal minimally.
You have to stick the cupboard first as a stop gap. That’s what we didn’t do this season or last
