I think Odoh is a done deal but I have ZERO resources to back that up. Just my own intuition and reading between the lines.

Pollard, I dunno. I think State was the leader till Stans was fired. Then I think G-town with their great tradition AND Kirby was tied with Alabama because I think Grant is a good recruiter... but Kirby at LSU and not far from home... who knows?

It's pretty clear Odoh is coming here at this point. We certainly have the scholarship, he was Johnny's top recruit, he says he wants to follow Johnny and Forrest here, he plays a position we desperately have to have and so far Johnny's track record is pretty good in that when you can look at a situation and say "I can't believe he wouldn't do X," Johnny goes and does X. Getting Odoh is an immaculate example of doing X. I'd be shocked if he doesn't come here now that he has a release to do it. So I'm pretty sure the word I heard on that is accurate.

The thing about Grant is, and if Bubba remembers the discussion we had on this a few months ago he's going to give me shite about it, his performance doesn't particularly bear out the idea he's a good recruiter. He took a decent class last year who played as freshmen this past season, that's true, but this year he has royally sucked. I don't even think he has any commitments - Pollard is pretty much all he's got. Which means maybe he's a better recruiter than Trent is, but (1) that ain't sayin' much and (2) Johnny's a different story.

And once Georgetown and Missouri dropped off and Mississippi State imploded, you would have expected Pollard to do the math and figure Alabama was the obvious place to go. But he didn't. They've been atop his list all this time and he won't pull the trigger, which tells me there's something about that place he's not crazy about.

Yeah, I tried to tell you Grant sucked as a recruiter. He's had one good class, with a top heavy instate group. He's one of only like 3 D1 schools currently without a commitment.

Even at VCU, they have been better without him. Never been sold on him. His playing style is not appealing to recruits.

What are you, a freakin' elephant? :)

In fairness, it looks like he might have some life for the 2013 class. But what he's doing this year is Trentesque.

So if we land Pollard and Odoh does that pretty much end our recruitment of Tony Trocha so we have room for the 2013 class?

No way. Trocha would be 1 and done anyway.

From yesterday on College Basketball Talk on NBCsports.com

quote:

The most important name to know is 6-7 wing forward Devonta Pollard of Kemper County (Miss.), who is apparently struggling with his decision and not tipping his hat. The most intriguing storyline around Pollard is if LSU has the juice to get involved in the top-25 prospect’s recruitment this late. The Tigers hired Robert Kirby as an assistant coach, and he had a pre-existing relationship with Pollard while at Georgetown.

Hickey
Stringer
Hammink
Coleman
Morgan
Issac (could be ineligible)
Ludwig
Courtney
Godfrey
JOB
Odoh (hasn't signed scholly or announced anything yet)

Still have room for Pollard and Trocha unless I am missing someone?

13 scholarships allowed.

Currently at 10, with Turner's exit.

Really the only names still legit at this point are Odoh, Pollard, Swilling and Trocha.

I don't think Swilling is still in play, unless perhaps Isaac fails out.

Trocha is a long shot in multiple respects, so I hesitate to even count him. There is a lot of competition for him, plus he is not yet eligible for 2012. There is also the possibility that he could turn pro in one of the South or Central American pro leagues.

I think LSU will sign Odoh, which puts us at 11. That will be it unless we can sign Pollard, or there is more attrition.

Reports are that Texas and Alabama are the leaders with Georgetown and Mizzou as the bridesmaids. The main recruiter for Georgetown took a job on Johnny Jones' LSU staff (which hurt the Hoyas' chances) and there are rumors LSU may have been added to the list - especially since Ralston Turner has been granted his release to transfer to NC State. Missouri reportedly has no scholarships left. There is also an outside chance that Mississippi State - his original favorite before Rick Stansbury's departure - might be back in the mix.

His father died of cancer about two years ago and their house burned down last year. He is VERY close with his mom and she has influence on the decision. To Bama's credit, Tuscaloosa is about the same distance (75 miles) to his hometown as Starkville (68 mi.)

So LSU has a very outside chance with Bama and Texas as leaders. Got it!

That's all someone's opinion. I don't think anyone knows anything.

If distance is a factor I don't see Texas being in the mix.

It could come down to us and Bama, and I like that matchup especially if he's as close to Kirby as rumored

Yeah, especially if he waits to enroll in the 2nd summer semester. That would give us another month to 6 weeks to catch and pass Bama. I have always been under the impression that we got in too late, but my optimism is starting to grow somewhat. Still think we're behind the 8 ball, but it's looking up.

Bama is way closer to Pollard's hometown than LSU is FWIW.

Grant hasn't exactly been lighting it on fire in recruiting. There must be some reason Pollard (or anyone else) hasn't committed this year.

Evan Daniels, the top basketball recruiting analyst at Scout, just said LSU was "a serious player" for Pollard.
