Kid just needs to be coached up by a good DL coach to reach his full potential, his ceiling is high with the right coach to motivate him to elevate his play

That’s why it’s so hard to project these guys. He has all the natural talent in the world and will absolutely flash at the next level but does he have the drive to be that OL eater throughout a game? I hope he does but it takes a lot of work and determination.
That’s what takes these guys so long to have an impact. We RS almost all of our QBs, OL, DL and LBs. Except the guys who are truly special and can make an impact as a freshman. You have them, it’s just rare. Those HS rankings can’t tell you how individual kids will grow and respond to the transition.

First, quickness and speed SHOULD be evident right this second. Watching him in that ONE UA game, sorry, it wasn't there. Second, I agree that everyone can't be a Maason Smith his TR FR year and DM won't be...I can promise you that. Third, I did on "those HS rankings can't tell you how kids will grow". If you believe the services rankings that is 100% what they are based upon. They SAY that their rankings are based upon what they will do in the pros...hence 247's 32 5* (1st round) appraisals each year. I agree with you that is STUPID but that is exactly how they rank players...pro potential, not college contributions.

He did great in practices but he was a non factor in the game, which has been the exact book on him from posters here all season long.

This. The tools are there. He needs a great coach to help him put it all together. Hopefully we are about to hire one.

I have explained my userid before but apparently you didn't see it. My NotaStarGazer userid is based upon MOCKING posters who take the recruiting services rating system (based on PRO potential and NOT college contributions) as gospel. Don't give a damn what PRO potential a player has. LSU to my knowledge isn't playing the Baltimore Ravens. But yes, I assign MY OWN * ratings just like movies have * ratings, etc. The Star system concept is fine, but NOT how the recruiting services utilize it. Can't explain it better than that. Perhaps I can use bananas instead of stars if that would make more sense. Hey, that could work!

He had trouble getting off of blocks in the game, will have to learn to do so. Not knocking him, just needs development. And no, he was not constantly double teamed as the poster wrote above. It was almost exclusively one guy blocking him.

Everything I read about this kid makes it seem like his strengths are all the things you can't coach up, and his weaknesses are all the things you can.

Freak athlete with crazy explosiveness and prototypical size, frame, and projectability, whose effort maybe flagged at times in HS ball. At his best, as good as or better than anyone, but at his worst maybe a little worse than you'd hope. Well, lucky for us, improving consistency in a kid who's inconsistent is much lower hanging fruit for a coaching staff than teasing out game-wrecking upside from a kid who's got a lower ceiling. Also... simple maturity often leads to increased effort - but you could be the dalai lama and it's not gonna give you an elite athletic profile.

Anyway, if this really is the case, then all we need is a little buy-in and we could be looking at a cornerstone player.

It makes you wonder about posters and their motives.

Did they say these things about dom BEFORE he committed?
I was the first poster to comment about McKinely in the game yesterday, and this is what I said:
quote:

First time watching McKinley. He does not look impressive at all. He certainly has lots of room to get bigger.
He was double teamed on occasion, but the vast majority of the time he was one-on-one. I reiterate what I said yesterday, he didn't look impressive at all. I think he made one tackle.

McKinley killed it in one-on-one practice drills earlier in the week, but he was a nonfactor in the game. There is one factor that might help McKinley and that is that the defense could not blitz, so offensive linemen did not have to worry about LB shooting gaps. But the fact remains that McKinley did not impress at all, and the Ice team defensive line was killing the Fire Team QB.

I have no motive except that I hope McKinley commits to LSU and plays great. LSU needs DTs, and McKinley looks to have great potential.

One thing people forget is that he’s about 40 lbs underweight as a defensive tackle. That’s going to affect a lot in the interior line.

From what I saw in the under armor game, he got doubled a good bit and that allowed the rest of the line to get some pressure. But I saw a few plays where he got blew off the ball 1 on 1 by blockers coming from the side of him. He needs to work on his awareness and play recognition, which will come from good coaching and game reps. Needs a little work but a great pickup for the home team.

Whatever. If you can't understand the difference between StarGazing at recruiting services and assigning my own appraisals, that is not my problem.

Not an alter and not banned. But hey, you don't seem too concerned about posting truths, so keep lying. You are very good at that.

Well, I have to admit I’m pleasantly surprised. I had pretty low expectations. And it couldn’t be better timing .

1 solo tackle, 0 assists, no factor in pass rushing. He had a chance to recover a fumble (not caused by him) but an Ice team player beat him to it.

#99 the Georgia commit on Fire team looked much better than McKinley. And you are correct that the Ice DL dominated the Fire OL. And as you also stated, he was rarely double teamed. And as I initially said, I never saw him pancaked per se but he was certainly stopped cold and sometimes ended up literally on his back with the blocker on top of him. As far as the one-on-one clips, I don't have enough info to comment on those. I have no idea who the blocker was, if there was instruction going on, etc.

What motive would we have to unjustly crap on our own commitment? The things that were said during the game supported what was seen and said before he switched to LSU. Great frame, great measurables and athleticism, but doesn’t show up to his potential when the lights come on. It’s called being honest and expecting the best from your guys.

For the many people that have made this claim, yes, I am blanket calling y’all out.

For you, personally, I’ve never heard of you and was not quoting you.

You’re making yourself more important to me than you actually are.

Ask yourself how did he look in the camps?

Ask yourself why did Brian Kelly offer?
