His last few posts on Twitter and Instagram are all related to Penn St. Any chance he flips or is he a done deal? Do you think he likes the thought of splitting touches with Emery?

Why wouldn't he? Splitting time with a good back only helps your situation. No back is 100%. All backs split time. Might as well split time with another great back to keep the pressure on opposing defenses.

Feelings always get hurt in recruiting.
It's why you keep recruiting guys like Noah Cain or maybe even get back involved with Hollins at some point.
It's how they lost Etienne, putting all their eggs in the Akers basket.

Per Shea......

quote:

I talked to Davis on Tuesday night after Emery committed. Here was his take: "We have been talking about this," Davis said. "We about to turn LSU all the way up. Best backfield in the country."

It's a throwback to the Dalton James gang, those were good times!

It's the primary cause of losing Ettiene. We went all in on Akers and had CEH already committed. Ettiene wasn't a guy we saw as an SEC type back until late. By then his feelings were hurt because we slow played him. At the same round about time Clemson pushed, got him in for a visit and surged to the top. There may be some more behind the scenes but that's the jist

we lost Etienne because he wanted to go to Clemson, you can say we offered late, but we offered before Clemson did

Etienne was offered very late in the recruiting cycle because we wanted another running back.

We let him know he was second fiddle and he didn’t forget it. That’s the risk when you play that game.
I’ll give Coach O credit that once he took the job, he made Etienne a priority but the damage was done.

Also 100% agree that it is a plus for LSU and Davis to have another feature back on this class.

I strongly believe he will sign with LSU when the time comes.

I think most college running backs these understand having someone to share carries with is beneficial to them in the long run. He can go get beat into the ground somewhere else or get 10-12 carries a game for 3 years then go to nfl in decent physical shape.

This is revisionism if you are suggesting that Orgeron did not continue with Akers as his first choice.
You will see that one of the first things Orgeron did, On November 29, was go to Clinton, MIss to recruit Akers as a priority. At that time, Akers still had ten teams on a list, including LSU. Ed was part of stringing Etienne along and he bears responsibility for losing both Akers ( to Jimbo) and Etienne (to Dabo).

You don't see any difference between Clemson offering late and LSU offering late?

I hope not. I like his film and interviews better than Emery.

Not sure why you're getting down votes here. I wouldn't say I like Davis more than Emery, but I like him just as much.

I'm not comparing the running styles, but talent-wise this would be almost like getting Fournette and Guice in the same class.

Yes, you are proving my point.. we didn’t lose etienne because he was a commit and got jealous we were pursuing other backs. He didn’t like us because we jumped in way too late after swinging and missing on other prospects. Take out all the other prospects we were just late to the show

Well, he has been recruiting Emery and Noah Cain to come to LSU, so I doubt it.

Yes, Etienne wanted to go to Clemson

quote:

While Clemson was preparing for the College Football Playoff, Richardson withdrew his commitment to the Tigers for personal reasons. (He would later sign with Central Florida and play one season there before transferring to Texas A&M). Suddenly the Tigers were looking for a running back. National Signing Day was just around the corner.

“I had to find a running back,” Tony Elliott, Clemson’s co-offensive coordinator and running backs coach, said. So he flew to small-town Louisiana by himself on Jan. 12, 2017, where an ecstatic 18-year-old was so giddy to learn that Clemson was finally paying him a visit, he couldn’t control himself as he walked through the gym doors.

“Coach,” Etienne said as he made his way into Phelps’ office. “Coach Elliott’s coming to see me.” “Coach Elliott from where?” Phelps asked, though he already knew about the visit. “Coach Elliott from Clemson,” Etienne replied, having a hunch that a Clemson offer that afternoon just might prompt him to shut down his entire recruitment.
