One left but at this point - if the Coaches think he's good enough - that's not a deal breaker.
You have Penn and Weeks with experience and more competition sharpens them, too. You can be sure all three will get snaps in schemes that they can thrive in.
A proven ILB makes those 2 better in the long run.
Look, CBK came here to head hunt. When I said "if the Coaches thinks he's good enough" I believe that means a higher/the same standard of player as Gump/Kirby/OSU. Period.
In a perfect world, I think Nick Jackson from UVA is our guy.

Another LB in the portal that may garner interest from the staff is Austin Keys from Ole Miss. Listed at 6-2, 241 on his 247 profile, made 3 starts the past year and played in their LB rotation.

Keys' 247 profile

247 Article Article is on the top 5 most improved Webels in 2022, Keys is listed as Honorable Mention.

Excerpt:

"LB Austin Keys

Ole Miss’ (then) redshirt sophomore linebacker only made one start and appeared in six games before having to be sidelined the rest of the way for a knee-injury in 2021. In 2022, Keys made three starts and played a significant role as a rotianal player in the front seven.

In his second year of seeing action on the field, his production from year one to year two was evident. Keys registered career-highs in tackles (39, 14 solo), sacks (two), and forced fumbles (one).

Though he showed promising improvement in the two-season time span and I’m looking forward to seeing what he brings in 2023 with what I’m anticipating to be a bigger role, I think there are players who showed greater improvement."

Yep. This kid is a perfect example of a player who'd be considered because of how tough - in a good way - it is to find fits at LB. (And pretty much every other position now that CBK/Staff have pulverized the freaking Portal!)
He's had good PT, he wouldn't come in expecting to start, he's got size, been through the SEC Wars, and has shown improvement year over year. I'm always looking for a kid who's had knee issues to get back to his true talent level the second year back. (Baseball background here. Call it Tommy John syndrome) So maybe there's that, too.
And something that LSU has that you won't find anywhere else. CBK's & Staff's Coaching and Alignment. Fuuuuqqqqqqq - don't let me get started on that again!
For my money they've already looked into this kid and have him ranked.
Guess we'll see.

Zavier Carter entered the Portal this A.M.
Good for him.
It took some looking in the mirror. He sees he's not gonna be relied on for any more PT wise than he's already been getting, and made a grown up decision that he wants to keep playing football/get that degree paid for.
He's got a lot to offer maturity wise and in the locker room after having been in the LSU program through thick and thin.
Maybe Alignment helped with the decision - maybe not. But this isn't some petulant kid crying about PT and transferring away from a program.
Like I said on the other board too, Good Luck to him and I hope he's got something already lined up. TYFYS Z!

Looks like Keys' chances might've gotten a little better this morning...
It really don't look like there's any fits currently in the portal besides Nick Jackson at Virginia and Clayton Smith at OU and not very sure about Smith.

News from Shea/On3 is not a surprise but certainly welcome. Played for CBK at Notre Dame as previously noted about 100 times.
Ovie Oghoufo EDGE 6-3 239 Texas/Notre Dame
SENIOR (2022)
"Played in 13 games with 12 starts … totaled 54 tackles (20 solo), 8.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble, four quarterback hurries and three pass breakups" This dude/Swinson/Savion works. And add in some Womack.
This is a no worse than average SEC position.
Me likey. The strength at DT should allow a good number of TFL's by this group.

VERY attracting portal entrant:
Omar Speights MLB Oregon State
Junior, class of 2019
83 total tackles this year, and at one point played 300+ coverage snaps without allowing a TD.
6'1 233
1 PD this year, 2 INTs last year
Would be very nice.

I understand grabbing good players but CB and WR are not need to have like a LB, G/C, LB, S, LB, or LB.

What about the ol from Georgia Jacob Hood? I remember LSU was recruiting him when he came out of high school. He might not be good enough for Georgias OL but maybe he could help with depth or as a starter on our OL

Good call. Committed to Auburn on Saturday 1/14. I would think he got some consideration as depth/ST guy.

Jacob Hood OL FR 6-8 350 Georgia - Red Shirted/Did not see action.
From 247/Georgia: "Jacob Hood enrolled early at Georgia but had ankle surgery prior to the start of spring. He has not been among the three-deep on the offensive line during pre-game warm-ups." (Arlicle appeared after 7th game of the 22' Season)
Dawgs Red Shirted OT's and 2 OG's, by the way.

Can’t we still get commits though? Just can’t sign till spring correct?

Anybody in the Portal can choose at any point but unless they are Grad students getting an exception (one that I can't exactly remember right now) like JD they won't be able to participate in Spring Practice.
I believe Bjorn has these details. Apologies if it's somebody else.
