Hopefully he’s Jamarcus with a work ethic

I will never for the life of me understand why LSU fans dog Jamarcus. He won the west twice and the SEC once. If Finley is Jamarcus at LSU, he would be the best QB has had in since Jamarcus.

I'm from Ponchatoula and know people who teach and coach at the school. It's a mixed bag of opinions on him, but the most consistent is that his work ethic isn't great. He gets by mostly on God given talent.

. I hear similar things. All I know what I see on the field at the real games when it is 11 on 11.

I do like the idea of this competition because it makes these kids compete and shows them areas they need to improve upon. However, we shouldn’t get carried away with how they rank these kids. I remember a few years ago Sean White from Auburn won the whole thing and was hardly even a starter in college.

ETA: Myles Brennan was named to the elite 11 and a lot of people in our fanbase are skeptical of him as a starter. Point proven.

He tied for 10th place in the longest throw competition with 58 yards. Something had to be off.

Billy from 247 showed the video on his twitter, he wasn't even really trying, almost no follow through on the throw.

That's weird. 68.5 yards won it. Would have liked to see what he could have done just for fun.

Here is the latest update;

11. LSU commit TJ Finley of Ponchatoula (La.) made some of the most impressive throws of the camp, but would follow it up with a frustrating errant pass. Regardless, his ‘wow’ throws were good enough for the 6-foot-6, 240-pound signal caller to make the cut on Monday. Finley is at his best throwing vertically along either sideline. That is where he flashes a big-time arm, but his overall consistency still needs to improve.

I am really not liking this "inconsistency" theme that keeps on popping up when describing Finley's play! That is what has killed us year after year, inconsistency at the QB position.

It's been the common theme with him from people who've watched him play.

Finley was never going to be consistent coming into here, he is the long project play because he has all the physical tools. Keep in mind he was in a veer offense 2 years ago before transition to a shotgun spread, he's basically learning how to play in a modern offense still and likely has no proper coaching to learn mechanics and whatnot with his head coach being a disciple of the veer. Frankly speaking, his mechanics are pretty bad when you watch him. He loves to just flick the ball flat footed a lot of times.

We can argue we never develop QBs recently especially from project-esque phases, but we also have 2 QBs in the class. Finley is just big time boom-bust potential. IT would be surprising if he started in year 1 or 2 probably though.

Exactamundo! Finley is the prospect, long play. Hopefully transitions the way Jamarcus did. If not, Max Johnson and at least one top level 2011 QB recruit will be starters. And Finley will find a new home with playing time.

But if he does meet his potential, it will be so fun to watch!

He'll be a TE before his career is over. Sorry to say it, but his inaccuracy will keep him off the field. Brandon Harris had a huge arm but couldn't hit a five yard out. Same thing here.

Finley is much more accurate than Brandon Harris was at this point.

Is he? The reports on Harris from the camps were all very similar.

Harris got his shot, at least let TJ get his before proclaiming him a failure.

The reports on Harris were all about his lack of accuracy. He was given extra points because of his running ability.

Finley can throw. He has another year before he hits campus and 2 years before he would possibly play as a red shirt freshman. If he is having issues in 2-3 years then we can worry.
