TJ Finley (#9 PRO-QB) – Finley has the biggest body in the building. He quickly showed that he has the biggest arm, too. He can flick the ball with velocity unlike anyone else and he showcased that during a big ball contest to end practice that featured a Cover 2 fade shot. Finley came in second in the competition making some ‘wow’ throws. But over the course of the day he also showed some inconsistencies mechanically and struggled as much as anyone in the footwork drills. Recruitment: Committed to LSU.

Hes got all the physical skills you could want but it seems he'll have to make good work of a red shirt year to put it all together. A big arm and bad mechanics can only get you so far.

Most young QB's will have the same issues. Once TJ gets to LSU and gets daily direction from a QB coach and drills to correct these issues, he will be fine. And once those issues are corrected he will be more accurate and an overall better passer.

His high school coach Hank Tierney is probably not the one you want working with him as a passer or with footwork as a passer. He’s been running the option for 30 years. He’ll have a lot to learn once he gets to college.

Finley has the biggest arm and slowest feet in the competition.

He’s the biggest QB there......he won’t win any tinker bell awards. He has a Jamarcus arm and moves a couple steps faster than Mett.....he’s gonna be fine

Is this not the same thing we said about Brandon Harris tho? Has all the physical skills and just needs some college training? What were the red flags about Harris that Finley doesn’t have? Not trying to roast Finley, I like him but the whole Harris flop just makes me skeptical of these big-armed, low-mechanics recruits

Harris’ problem was that he couldn’t complete a short pass to save his life. He had zero touch. The videos I’ve seen of Finley make it look like he’s got some touch

Hopefully he’s Jamarcus with a work ethic

Can’t compare two QBs just on surface level stuff like that. There’s way too many variables that go into whether a guy will be good at the next level. If you want LSU to wait around for perfectly polished QBs that won’t require any development you better get used to the idea of them taking one about every 3 or 4 years and praying he’s interested.

18 to 1 upvotes/downvotes on saying a QB is gonna get coached up right at LSU? What parallel dimension have I fallen into?
You better not say that over on tRant; some negas will take your head off

The point is that he is WORSE than “most young QBs”.

Whether he gets it figured out when he gets better coaching depends on his work ethic. Let’s hope he comes in dedicated and achieves his potential.

It will be interesting to watch this play out. King is the better QB right now.

Finley is the Franks to King’s Patterson.

I’m a big fan of accuracy. King has it right now. Finley needs to improve his footwork to be more accurate. I can see why the coaches want him though. He’s a physical freak at QB, and will be bigger than some SEC DE’s and most all Lbers.

I think I saw someone mention he measured 6-8 1/4 and like 257 at LSU camp. Be interested to see how he measured at Elite 11.

He doesn’t want to come here. It is what it is.
