Hasn't the spread hurt states like Texas when it comes to getting physical linemen? I could be wrong I'm asking. I know one of my buddies who's a Texas fan has made that complaint that it's becoming more 7 on 7 and the talent in the trenches is declining
However, don't forget that only a portion of the state plays 7v7 in HS, and where it's become basically a 7v7 type offense, there's still enough traditional in state, in their districts, to keep them on an even keel.
It is still HS, you still field the 11 man side of the ball with what's in-district. So a lineman is still there to be seen. Any lineman needs to make a jump from HS to SEC... so I don't see where offensive styles (as long as not true 7v7) changes much. Some, not much though.
If anything they'll be more well versed in RPO and pass blocking.
As evidence look at some of the OL TAMU has put in the league- from Texas. 11 of 12 OL on UT's roster are from Texas. 1 of our 2 most sought after OL this year is from Texas. OU likes them too. There's no shortage of OL D1 starters from the state of TX. All perception.
I'm no fan of the spread as a system to be run 100% of the time, but I don't think it hurts OL, not on the HS level.
Now, if you're Chip Kelly and have bought into the idea that your spread OL HAVE to be 285 lbs or less, yeah it will hurt you. Just like if you're LSU and have convinced yourself OTs have to be 320 lbs or more. The issue lies in "prototypes" for "system". There is no prototypical basis, either they're good enough... or not.

I hope we pull both Finley and Brown out of Zachary.
I would’ve thought we sign one or the other. I like Brown much better

I also like Brown much better, for various reasons, but he isn't 6'6" and that size of Finley. I doubt he has the arm either although he can chunk it.
Brown is electricity with the football though and is likely the fastest dual-threat QB in the nation in 2020. Kid has wheels unmatched.

How many highly rated dual threat qbs have worked out for us?

I don't have any qualms with Finley being the guy they want if they are only going for one QB for the 2020 class.
I also rather have a Pro-Style passer over a dual threat. I think Brown has the tools to be a Pro-Style having seen him perform is all I am saying. He just isn't the size or have the arm strength of Finley.
If he were to grow a few more inches the next couple years I'd rather take Brown all day. Also, the kid is a winner. Likely a 3 time state champ before he leaves Zachary as they are the future of 5A football right now.
Watch out for Todd McClure's son Maverick McClure in 2020 also. About 6'4" 230 and has excellent feet. While mostly an outside linebacker he could develop inside in time. He is also on that Zachary squad. Zachary is as filthy as University Lab. That game this year will be legendary for the Baton Rouge area.

Brister? Ever seen him play in person?

Already committed to us. Will be made public tonight.

Never seen Andrew play, ever.
Just video. Never seen a full game.
To me it is quite shocking he transferred in to Neville.
They may not win one this year, but next season Neville will be really good with a very very good freshman team coming up this season with a lot of talent. I'm sure McCarty will open that offense back up again with Brister and Hunter there now.

Was this the "Hold that tiger!" then?

Fair enough but dang say what you want about the team he was on I never saw him do ANYTHING You’d think if LSU was offering he’d be able to bust a few plays on his own v 2A competition

He isn't a run first QB. He is a Pro Style passer. He needs weapons around him.
I don't even like the Ponchy situation as they don't really have a lot of talent to go around him.
Maybe a reason why big time QB products usually come out of programs with an immense amount of offensive weapons at their disposal.
I'm not worried about his offer. He has two more years to go.

He has a 3.5 GPA and is supposed to graduate early. So he doesn't seem that immature for a kid his age. He also won't need to play here too quickly if Brennan/Narcisse stay the course.

Announcement to be made at 7 pm tonight. Has offers from Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and Auburn among others.

Want to get excited but not for ‘20. Too many things can happen

Of course. I’m just telling you what I saw first hand in multiple games

All you do is bash the kid on here and you really have no idea what was going on. If you don’t know facts shut the hell up. I’m sure you sit with the people who y’all at the coaches to call different plays as well.
People used to get banned on here for bashing kids as much as you do.
You are full of shite. I have never bashed the kid all I am telling is what I have seen with my own eyes. I didn't know anything about him until last season. What I saw was a big kid with a big arm. He can make every single throw you could ever want. He is a pro style QB, he won't wow you with his legs but he can move decent for a big kid. If he can use his legs to move the chains he hasn't shown it in games. Now I guess you are bitching at me for saying the kid needs to mature and become a leader. You can deny it all you want but these are facts. Not just my observations but also of a former Greenie who played 4 years of major college football. He said the same thing after seeing games and practices. Now I don't see how you call this bashing, it is just stating facts. I hope he commits and signs with LSU. It isn't too often that we have PHS players sign with LSU or any other D-1 program.

Great observation. It takes a keen eye to identify a 16 year old needs to mature.
