time to get recruits with character not stars

our 5 stars have shite the bed the last few years. the 3 and
4 star kids with high character and the want to be here are the ones who have excelled. Ricks, Stingley have been a joke. flott and mcglothern have excelled cause they want to be here, are coachable, and exhibit a team first attitude. Stingley and Ricks in my opinion are pretty boys who only played for themselves. if Perkins is like Ricks and stingley, and from all reports he is, he can go kick rocks.

We're still gonna have to pay market value. Even kids with good character and an allegiance to Louisiana would be stupid not to take legal money.

I get your point but Stingley is not a problem and he was injured. Good kid and not in same conversation as Ricks

Stingily is a top 5 pick who bleeds purple and gold. Ricks was never about LSU he is about the prettiest girl in town. Was LSU in 2019 and now it’s Bama. Huge difference between thetwo

That’s just not a LSU problem it’s all of college football. Go look at how many 5 stars out of high school get drafted and how 3 stars get drafted. Also where they get drafted.

Stingily and ricks are good examples. It’s an example of why I’m okay with Raymond leaving. But I think BK will give a compelling vision and leadership to keep those 5 stars.

This. Right. Here.
The binary thinking on this board just makes my head hurt. Look at guys like Howard and Campbell who are both 5 stars and stayed home through a coaching change when they could have gone anywhere. Make 2-5 of these guys the bedrock of every class. They are out there. Make these future leaders your top priority.
Then add a few of the right 3 and lower 4 star guys, likely LA guys who really want to be here and fit what the staff is building. Guys like Bech who star-chasers would pass on, but has the tools to be an SEC player. They will build lasting depth and future development. They may eventually leave if thing s don’t work out, but they won’t be the guys looking to grab a bag and bail if they aren’t starting their freshman years.
If you do these things and build the right culture that indoctrinates everyone else to buy in, then you can fill in the rest with the kinds of players we have recruited the last 20 years and have a talented roster that can play with anyone AND that is bought into a process-oriented, development-based mindset. Once you build that, you can bring in a few guys who don’t have the right priorities day one and most of them will conform once in the program. That’s what they do at Bama and Clemson (in different ways) and it WORKS.
