I know this will result in a ton of "go frick yourself" posts but the reality is that we, as fans, don't make recruiting any easier. Tiger Stadium used to be a special place, now "fans" leave in the third quarter then come on here and brag about. lets be candid, Baton Rouge isnt some utopia, kids need a reason to come here, and that reason can be almost anything but it certainly would help if we didn't boo our own players and empty out at halftime.

Even with the fans not showing up/leaving the recruits still claimed to have loved the tiger stadium experience..most likely because they werent around when it actually made a name for itself..

The commentary on this site is much more harmful than what goes on at Tiger Stadium.
Tiger Stadium, as is, is the best atmosphere in the country under certain circumstances.

It really sucks when people come on here and say that a player is a lock and then when it comes down to announcement time, you're sitting on pins and needles because you ACTUALLY don't know what school he is going to pick. Maybe it is a culmination of the stadium, comments, and being away from family to be on their own.
On the other hand, maybe Gerald and Speedy realize that they will be away from home and flip back to us on signing day. Either way, to say someone is a lock is like someone saying that they already know what your going to do tomorrow. Wouldn't you like to show them that they don't control you and your actions by doing the opposite? FWIW

Bashing the players and their families on message boards can't help either. Especially, speculating on their personal lives and calling them things like dysfunctional. And those comments are most often allowed to remain on display. Why wouldn't a prospect and his parents want to suit up for such a wonderful community of supporters?

This. Some people need to keep their opinions to themselves. They read these boards more than they visit Tiger Stadium

While recruits do look at message boards, to believe that any recruit really gave a second thought to what someone posted on a message board is putting your self on a high pedestal.

The commentary here is part of it I'm sure, as is the general constant bitching and whining that passes as discussing LSU football these days.
Seems like the pervasive mood is very negative and these Louisiana kids have to be exposed to a lot of that.
Add in the fact that these kids are generally NOT fans like posters here are. They are on the train ride of their lives. They go and meet coaches and players and see towns and schools and pick where they want to be.
Leave them alone. We have never and will never get all of the kids we want. Nor will any other school.
It's about the ones we get, not the ones we lose.

If only Tiger Stadium was as raucous as Florida Field when Willis made his only visit.
You know, the day they lost to Vandy by 17.

You people think way to much of anonymous message boards.

I don't think anyplace is special anymore, because it is all about the money. The band gets moved to provide more tickets to corporate types who might or might not go to the games. Rate hikes, paraking charges, surcharges, etc. are getting ridiculous. Hell, I don't even get any priority points for being an alumnus. This corporate culture has found a home with our players also with the high number of early entrees to the NFL. I will say this that most of the fans in the upper east where I sit have some connection to LSU and have near heart attacks during the games. We don't get loaded, we don't treat visitors like dirt, we don't shout STTDB, etc.; there's still a lot of die hard LSU fans out there with class.

I don't like bad mouthing the players, but we aren't the only fan base. It just so happens we have a website that sees more traffic than any other team. Now as fans, we set these expectations on not only winning, but on recruiting classes. Baton Rouge isn't a nice city, LSU also doesn't set some standard of academic excellence. There are other options that are just as good that isn't a far drive.

Turn back the history books to the commitment announcement of one Harvey Williams. He was there in front of his classmates, parents and teachers at Hempstead High School in Texas and more than half the crowd was singing the UT fight song while we he was making his announcement.
He got mad, and essentially said "the hell with you guys" and said "I'm going to LSU". I'm not sure they even had a bunch of hats on the podium.
So the backfiring from calling some one a "lock" has worked its way to our advantage as well [at least once].
We all have fondness for our own experiences at Tiger Stadium. Hearing about the reasons our experiences were so awesome allows a potential recruit to appreciate that what they saw and heard and felt is truly shared by [even] Millions. I thank guys like Shaq, Peterson, Mathieu and Hester who keep the good vibes of their time here in the minds of these players.
