It's apparent we will be taking atleast one tight end this class, and that is widely assumed to be Jake Johnson(brother of Max Johnson). However I propose a two TE class, due to attrition taken at the position. Now I'm sure you'd be wondering who the other TE will be, three names come to mind. Holden Staes, Elijah Brown, and Trent McGaughey. Which of these three would you prefer to pair with Jake?
Holden Staes 24/7
Elijah Brown 24/7
Trent McGaughey 24/7

The biggest one and/or the one that had the best hands.

Depending on how Bech progresses I think 2022 will definitely be a 2 TE class. Even if Bech makes the move to TE, I think they still might be targeting 2 for 2022.

This. I think his ability at WR is great, no reason to make him beef up to play TE when the process might make him less effective.

Could he do it? Sure, but he can be a great asset out wide.

They've been saying TE/WR all along, even in interviews Bech mentions potentially playing TE and doesnt care where they put him. On his lsu profile page it says TE/WR.

TE is not what it used to be, being flexed out as a WR majority of time in our offense. Plus, he will have the size to play that spot, already 6'2 215 now. Could easily get up in that 225-230 range. HE's a physical player which is what could translate really well there, plus get better matchups on linebackers and safeties. Just watching his willingness to block is a big bonus for potentially playing TE. Kole Taylor looked hopeless as a blocker late last season.

Kole Taylor looks like a 4 year TE guy to me as well.

The covid year helps that it won't count against him. I think he has a promising career at LSU and the pros he isnt scared to battle in trenches and was fairly slim to go with his frame. I think we may just roll with Jake if he commits here and keep it pushing.

Are you referring to the 2021 class? Jalen Shead has already been signed. If not 2021, the Jack Bech speculation may be a result of confusion on which class you are referring to.

Actually, it says WR/TE.

We do not flex the TE “the majority of the time”. Even our best receiving threat was lined up tight way more often than not.

I suppose it will also depend on Storz and with Bech you rarely see WRs coming out of HS at 215+, those guys eventually turn into H’s and are used like Thad Moss in spread schemes.

Taylor
Storz
Shead
Bech

Johnson

Rivals has him as TE.

LSU's roster had him at WR/TE

Regardless what he is listed as, Bech had a golden Opportunity and a mismatch nightmare, I really love this kids potential,

Bottom line, you take Johnson, then if another top TE wants in, take him, if not, use the spot on something else of need, I wouldn't reach for a low rated TE, "just to say we got two te's"

Kole taylor def has the job on lock for now.

I don't think bech moves to tight end right away, if at all.

Fair enough.

Trent McGaughey is the son of Thomas McGaughey, former LSU assistant. He actually was the lead recruiter on Christian Lacouture.

I believe Thomas is currently in the NFL with the Giants.

So he's certainly a possibility.

I wouldn't say hopeless because he was at his assignment most every time. Technique looked OK but he just got brushed aside for the most part. I mentioned elsewhere he's got to get lower body stronger in a big way. Kid'll be running on Oak trunks by the time he leaves here for the NFL.
