The portal has really benefited LSU.

As much as I disliked the portal, BK and his staff have dominated the portal. Couple that with a tremendous signing day, this staff is killing it.

I don't know about the transition LSU made with NIL, but it is very apparent that BK understands the value of the portal.

It's not ideal, and not the long term plan for BK, but he sure is using it well.

We are so, so fortunate to have gotten Woodward and Kelly when we did. Can you imagine the total portal shitshow that would be going on right now if Alleva and whatever clown he settled for were still running our program?

Think it benefits LSU in two major ways:

1) CBK and his staff are elite at evaluating talent and developing it. I can confidently say that after just two recruiting cycles and one transfer portal cycle

2) You always have a pool of Louisiana talent that may have developed at another school that wants/wanted to play at LSU

It’s why I don’t get too worked up over portal losses like Tolan

I don’t know. I think there is something to be said for getting a group of guys every year that may have been overlooked coming out of HS who have really developed as underclassmen at lower schools. I’d imagine a lot of those guys are probably really hungry. It’s also a stark contrast to the kind of guys we got under Les and O who would ball out as freshman and then whose production would fade as they because focused on bolting for the draft.

Their ability to evaluate talent is actually under valued. They've made great selections in whom they pursue.

I don't think that can be stressed enough. I'd also add their ability to develop the talent. And to fill out a complete roster, not just wide receivers.

Seems like it may have to be in today’s college football?

The thing that I like is he going after the younger portal guys rather than just relying on 1 year guys. That way he doesn't always have to rely on going back to the Portal year after year to fill in the same holes.

Huh? lol did you watch the national championship last night? What major contributor has UGA gotten from the portal?

For that matter, what major contributors did ANY of the four playoff teams get from the portal?

The portal is a tool to plug holes, but the best long-term roster-building strategy is still 100% through HS prospects.
