If you don't fit in this category, then all is well and good.But I'd bet there's a very large overlap in those who see nothing but negs in DL recruiting, McMahon, our AD, The baseball team. All these negs have what Saban called the brook trout stare. They go through life just knowing the worst is gonna happen. And that's sad.

Look, I love BK. Love everything he is doing and think he will get us to the promised land if we are patient. But I think his discipline here - while usually warranted- is going to hurt our chances in 2024. I really do. I get we don't want to look desperate, but we have the worst DT position group in the SEC. We are desperate there. These guys are probably not worth their asking price. But sometimes you have to pay over sticker where the lots are empty and your current car won't start.

What if we are offering half a million and there are people going even higher?

Honestly I could see that happening.

It's gonna be a long year on the recruiting board. It's amazing what the portal has done to the hope and excitement spring generally brings. Now it's all panic and tones of desperation. We aren't gonna land every DT that visits. We aren't going to miss on all of them either. Look around and it's pretty clear other schools are in the same position as us in terms of desperation on the DL, DT in particular. It makes for an inflated market and it takes a bit to settle. Kids would be unwise to not leverage other visits while negotiating. They have agents now to make sure. It doesn't mean we are poor. Texas is sure to be setting the market with Dominic Williams but even they can't persuade him to not take other visits. They're far from broke. Just desperate and the kids(agents) know it.
We can get into a further discussion another time regarding a much overlooked point regarding Bo Davis. I'm a fan because of his development track record but taking a look at that Texas room and reading about their own dilemma of needing quality DL bodies, it could make one curious as to what Davis was doing as a recruiter there and why it means things are gonna suddenly change here. I think it's pretty clear those expecting major 5* hauls are set up for disappointment. He's fortunate the 26 class is DL loaded instate. He's one we are gonna truly have to trust in the evals/development angle with.

We are going to be so good everywhere else we won't need DTs. We're going to play a 2-5 D with only edge rushers on the line. There, I solved the problem.
