“I wouldn’t be surprised if Texas closes it out this weekend,” InsideTexas.com’s Justin Wells said Wednesday during On3’s Inside Scoop recruiting show. “I’m not saying it’s commit watch, but I’ll tell you that I think Texas — over the past 72 hours — has taken the lead in the James Simon sweepstakes.

If you dive into his family a little bit, they are not from Louisiana and he was not born and raised to root for LSU. Dad has been a college coach all over the place and his most recent stop was at Grambling before Mickey took over as HC.

Texas insiders expect to land every single player they've ever laid eyes on.

How serious are we supposed to take this?

Yeah saw it yesterday. If he picks them good luck to him no hard feelings state is loaded with backs.

Seems like the 3RB class would be hard and it's first come first serve

Coaches gave him every opportunity to pull the trigger and waited and waited and finally just offered Lindsey and took that commitment. They would still obviously take Simon making it a 3 RB class but also if I'm Simon not sure I'd want to be a part of a 3 RB class either. I could see him committing elsewhere (Texas for instance) and we're ok with that. He's good enough you dont say no to but he's not good enough you wait on him until December when we needed to secure at least 2 RB.

RBs just typically arent used like they are used to and impact the game so much less now. We basically threw a bunch of sh*t at the wall at RB this past season and it worked out just fine (albeit with a QB who ran a lot). Now with a more measured approach moving forward we'll be fine there with or without simon. We have the #1 RB in the country, anything beyond that is lagniappe.

I can't be mad at a prospect not wanting to be a part of a 3 man class at all. Just remember the early on talk about getting two of the top 10 RB's and the #1 class.

Small backs tho

I hope lsu pursued other guys due to their feeling on this vs Simon moving on because they decided to pursue other guys independently

LSU will be alright. The plan might be to hit the transfer portal for experienced depth if no Simon. It's definitely not a melt situation. It's funny to me that Texas mods are making it sound like they are beating LSU out for him. It's obvious that LSU decided to put some eggs in another basket, and if Simon doesn't come here, oh well. You'd rather have him than him go to a conference foe, but LSU will be just fine. There are other RBs out there.

We will be fine.

Via portal or hs, LSU will be fine at RB.

I wouldn't mind us pushing for Ford.

I’m not saying they won’t be alright.

I’m also saying 185lb RBs are kind of a crap shoot

RBs is last position you have to worry about in football. Everyone use multiple backs anyway rarely do you see 1 workhorse back these days. I believe we stay at 2 backs if Simon doesn't commit to LSU.

Im telling yall, Watch the tape. JT Lindsey is a better modern day running back and its not close to me. Simon lacks the explosiveness that Lindsey has in spades.

Texass insiders think they lead for everybody though. It's hard to take then seriously.
