Is it correct that they do not play in post season game, but can exit portal at some point before next season and be eligible for next season with increased NIL?

You can play when you're in the portal technically. It's just a place where it says other coaching staffs can contact you, thats it.

And Josh Pate has a good term for players looking for more NIL money who enter portal - "Portal Dippers". Basically using leverage to get more money out of their current school, like it or not, it's going to happen with a number of players.

Someone needs to teach him about this thing called leverage. Of which he has none.

Kardell isn’t the type of player he’s talking about. He isn’t a star player looking for more NIL money from his current school. He’s a highly rated recruit that hasn’t planned out who’ll likely transfer to a smaller school for playing time.

Yep. Although it is difficult to imagine many coaches wanting to play a kid who is simultaneous confirming he's willing to listen to other schools about transferring.

I can see a situation where the player is out for the season with injury for a CFP and has entered the portal before the CFP starts (you've already seen a few Michigan players do just that). But it may become more interesting if a guy is a key backup for the CFP, but has already made a decision to transfer. Is a playoff coach going to allow that guy to both enter the portal AND practice/potentially play in the CFP? Or is he going to tell him he can't participate with the team if he is in the portal?

I know it can be difficult to recognize sarcasm since we don't have a special font but even an oblivious old man like me recognized that as sarcasm. The responses were quick and hilariously serious.

He’s going to end up at an HBCU because his scholarship holds more value than he does. Probably Southern if he has any NIL deals with local businesses.

This may be splitting hairs, but technically entering the portal is formal notification to your school of intent to transfer. That formal notification of intent also releases the player’s current school from their scholarship obligations for the next academic term.

I don’t believe there’s anything on the NCAA side preventing a player in the portal from playing. However, I’m not aware of any instances yet where a staff has allowed a player in the portal to continue practicing/playing with the team. They’re basically off the team unless or until they decide to withdraw from the portal. No coach wants to deal with that distraction in practice, much less in games.

I’d like to think most coaches will continue to treat it the same way. Even with the new windows, the players have until mid-January to enter the portal. Pretty shitty if a guy with any intention of staying can’t wait until after the bowl game.

That being said, we are in uncharted waters with the portal windows and NIL so I guess anything could happen.
