Performance on the field last year? The narrative has been for years that LSU has to first beat the Gumps on the field. I’ve heard on this board several times that the next recruiting cycle is when you cash in on a great season.

However, it’s now clearer than ever that Bama recruiting is at a level that LSU will never catch as long as their coach is there.

LSU will have to always win that game with less talent on the field. And it took the greatest team in cfb history ever to finally beat them by 5 points.

Was really hoping the recruiting would swing in LSU’s favor after 2019 season and they would get everyone that they want like Bama has done for a decade...Not so fast my friend!

Keep fighting Tigers!!!

It's no different now than when Bear bryant was there.
It seems the recruits love Tu$caloo$a.
Don't know their secret. A player from New Orleans, Wilcox, was the Bear's first wishbone QB. When he graduated from Bama, he was asked why he chose Alabama over LSU, he answered, they offered me more. He didn't say what or how much.

I mean, LSU has what 1 win over Bama now in the last 8 years? We need to show some level of consistency, not just lightning in a bottle. Losing to State and Mizzou before playing any real SEC contenders ain’t it...

If the top Louisiana players stay home, and we stay recruiting the Houston area well, we should be top 5 in recruiting every year and a NC contender.

Look I’m from LA and I love LSU, however, until Louisiana pulls its arse out of being rated the lowest in education, obesity, job prosperity, there will be negative recruiting. There have been Democratic governors and republican governors with the same results. LSU needs to get out of the basement of education ratings in the SEC. When weighed out against UGA’s, Clemson’s, and OSU’s of the world it is a negative recruiting tool that is more difficult to sell when dealing with recruits from around the country. Go ahead and downvote...

This is spot on, but how much do the Derrick Henrys and Eddie Lacys care about this?

In 2019 LSU clearly had more talent on the field than Bama. The strength of Bama’s team was in two position groups: QB and WR, and LSU was better in both. The offensive lines were about even, as was running back and TE.

LSU had big advantages at LB and defensive back, and were about even on the defensive line. LSU’s punter was better and field goal kicker.

The reason LSU was better was because of the spectacular 2017 recruiting class, which was ranked #7 but was actually the #1 class in the nation by far. We followed that with a crappy 2018 class, which was ranked #15 but was probably #30, or so. The 2019 and 2020 classes, while not as good as 2017, are very good classes, and the 2021 class looks very good on paper.

I remember watching Tommy played QB in HS at Bonnabel. Bear Bryant moved him to Safety where he started 4 yrs and was a 2-time All-American. Never left Tuscaloosa and has done very well for himself.

Lsu also got hurt to some extent not being able to host recruits and let them hold the trophies and crap. Urban used to let them smash the crystal ball on visits.

Absolutely none. I was going to continue with my post but figured that was enough. I believe for a large portion of these really high recruits it doesn’t matter that much but to believe other head coaches don’t use this is a little naive. To go get a highly rated offense lineman in the upper Midwest though it can play a huge part. I would think as a head coach it would be nice to say we rank at the top of the SEC in the educational field though.

If you're a defensive player watching this mess, are you choosing LSU? It sucks to lose Sage but I don't blame him one bit.

LSU does need to address academics in a general way, but with the world being turned upside down by the fakedemic, not sure what will happen to "college education". I would not pay to have a virtual college experience. The idea is absurd on its face.

This may apply when recruiting against UGA or OSU, but not Bama. Alabama is fighting for around 48th of 50 in those categories.
