So are you saying Alabama and Clemson are recruiting overhyped players on the lines? Looks to be working out well for them.

In '19 - O-Line 5-Stars - Bama got one, Clemson got none.

Tenn got 2.

These got one: ATM, Wisc, Georgia, Miss St, Ohio St.

I understand this, but as you know, it’s what you do every year in football recruiting, not just one year. Why don’t you look at a 4 or 5-year average rather than just one recruiting year?

I’d be surprised if you didn’t see a different story.

LSU has more 5 star recruits than bama.

There is generally a strong correlation between quality and price.

Doesn't mean you can't find quality at a bargain, but you generally you pay a premium for better products, and better players since that's the analogy we're making here. Can't build a championship team off of bargains unless you have incredible talent evaluators.

You need both to win consistently. We need to start getting some of these 5* linemen in addition to finding bargains, not instead of finding them.

Over the last 3 years, Tenn and Georgia have gotten the most 5-Star O-Line (in the SEC), Not Clemson or Bama.

[EDIT - Bama is tied with Tenn at 2 - Georgia has 4]

It's closer to 2019 signing day than 2020. Wouldn't get overly upset about player rankings yet, they're going to change significantly.

Interesting. I haven’t seen the full breakdown, and haven’t kept up with their skill player recruiting, but I’d be interested to know how that pays off for TN especially (assuming they’re also doing well with the skill positions and coaching). Obviously GA has the horses (maybe not the coaching) to compete in and win the CFP.

Corrected above: Over last 3 years - Georgia has 4 - Bama is tied with Tenn at 2 - Clemson has 1

We’re going to rebuild the lines with raw 3 star project D linemen with only two years of eligibility.

You don’t get it yet, when Orgeron signs a highly recruited player the Cheerios cream their pants and say it’s a guarantee he’s elite but when he can’t and has to settle for weaker recruits there’s an excuse and they’re really great too you just can’t see it. Different topic same theme, Orgeron can do no wrong and is always in a win, win scenario to these people.

I'm pretty sure that Clemson had either two or three 3 star players on their offensive line

This is certainly the rule and not the exception. LSU is also definitely on par with Clemson in terms of developing offensive talent, just look at the QB position.

What’s funny is after the national title game we pointed out that Clemson has about the same talent level we did last season on the Oline they just had better coaching and these same people argued that wasn’t true and Clemson had elite recruits on the Oline. Lmfao now as usual they’re arguing the exact opposite because it fits their narrative.

The recruiting "Star" measurements are weakest when trying to judge linemen. These stars are not nearly as reliable for the line as they are for skill positions.

Surely you have a link or two to support this position. I’m sure you wouldn’t just be making up something and trying to pass it off as fact.

I'd rather have a bad-arse 3-star who loves to battle, than a 6'7" 5-Star who got pushed into playing football by his gym teacher (and doesn't really love the game)

He doesn’t realize that most of the 5 stars are the guys who do more and battle harder, that’s why they’re 5* and not 3*.

Yes. I've posted it on these boards numerous times, but I'll look for it some time this evening & post it yet again.

BTW, Damone... You're one of the most prolific posters on football matters on TD. You're supposed to know this kind of shite!
