re: So many 3-Star linemen at the bottom of our class???
They're not, but it's been shown time and time again that star ratings correlate with college production and program success. Of course there are exceptions, but there's a reason why the programs sucking up five star talent are competing for championships on a national level.

Star ratings, in general, are very good indicators of performance at the college level.

But star rankings have NOT been great at evaluating the "big uglies".

I'm pretty sure that Clemson had either two or three 3 star players on their offensive line.

Why do you think that a three star developed properly can't compete with a 5 star.

They had a couple that were developed, but they've also been good offensively for a long time now. Also Mitch Hyatt, their star high school OL, started all 4 years.

The problem you do don't seem to understand is that those 3 stars take years to develop. If all you have is them, the OL will never be consistently good for a team like LSU who consistently go against good DL in the SEC. You need guys you can spot in early within their first or 2nd years as well.

DL is also very bad.

When Glenn Dorsey retires O has to throw whatever at him for the name recognization that these kids look for in coaches.

Ratings are part of the equation but there is more to it than that. Clemson was getting five star recruits at WR and QB and one or two here and there. They had to win NCs to get to this level. And how did they do it? Recruiting to fill needs and depth, good position coaching and development, creative play calling to attack their opponents' weaknesses and three stars overachieving to play like four stars. It also proven that without adequate coaching and development recruiting success does not always equate to wins and championships.

Yes. That's why it's difficult to come in on the offensive line and contribute right away. Hell even a 4 star generally needs time to develop. The offensive line as a unit needs time playing together as well. 5 star offensive lineman that come in and start 3 or 4 years don't grow on trees.

re: So many 3-Star linemen at the bottom of our class???
this shite is mind blowing

this whole thread is people who said Miles only recruits elite WRs/DBs and ignored the lines while pumping O for doing the same

the only difference is this optimism that O evaluates better than Miles did when he has yet to sign elite line guys on the level of Miles's elite line guys (and after losing a few major battles to Bama)

i mean the 2020 class looks to be great but O was literally sold as a guy who is going to not recruit like miles and...
